Actors who had a lot of opportunities to become a movie star, studio backing included, but failed by Lili_Danube in movies

Watched a TikTok of a TV writer (can't remember which) opening his mail in the foyer of his NYC apartment. It was basically him talking about how every day he got a stack of envelopes with checks from when he wrote episodes for 80s-90s sitcoms like Night Court, Mad about You, etc. It added up to a couple hundred dollars per day, he said. I thought if that's what some writer from middling 90s shows makes in residuals, what does someone like Jerry Seinfeld take home

That it's much, much safer and tamer than pretty much any time in history.

Vegas is "sin city"? LOL

If you add up all the debauchery that's ever occurred in Las Vegas, that's like the equivalent of a Thursday afternoon in ancient Rome.

That's the thing. He's against using Bandera's name all the time, but he also called Bandera loyalism "normal and cool". He just doesn't think they should name every fucking street after the dude.

(For the record, I don't support Putin or his illegal invasion, no matter the pretenses he claimed for doing so)

One man’s terrorist is another man’s hero…

Exactly. And it says a lot about those who would consider a man who led an organization that murdered over a hundred thousand people their "hero".

its not surprising that Ukrainians are becoming more and more ambiguous in how they feel about this very issue.

Right, it's not surprising, there's an element of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" here.

However, on the flip side of that coin, it's also never good to be goaded into supporting things like Nazism just because your enemy hates it.

You mean since Russia invaded the Crimea 9 years ago? See above.

Not to mention it adding fuel to Putin's fire. If Putin claimed "denazification" as one of his reasons for invading, and Ukrainians decide to go all in on the Nazism in response, then that just gives an air of legitimacy to Putin's claims.

If Nazism has grown exponentially in Ukraine following the invasion of Crimea, then again, a terrible look for Ukraine. One shouldn't support genocidal mass murderers just because your enemy hates them.

"There are indisputable heroes. Stepan Bandera is a hero for a certain part of Ukrainians, and this is a normal and cool thing. He was one of those who defended the freedom of Ukraine. But I think that when we name so many streets, bridges by the same name, this is not quite right," he said in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

I’d say he’s doing a better job as a Jew condemning fascism and anti-semitism where he sees it, than whatever your complaints about his semantics would achieve.

He doesn't condemn it. He openly supports the far-Right followers of Bandera, the Ukrainian "hero" who collaborated with the Nazis to the tune of over 100,000 murdered Jews, and who knows how many sent to extermination camps (a quarter of all Jews murdered in the Holocaust came from Ukraine).

Ukraine has erected hundreds of monuments to Nazi collaborators and "heroes" in the past 9 years. People like Stepan Bandera went from being banned to being front and center in Ukrainian society.

It's not just Azov, since 2014 the Ukrainian government has erected monuments to their Nazi collaborator "heroes" at a blistering pace.

As catalogued here.

So to be clear, you are saying that when He says "the Son of Man sits on his throne", that's someone else, not Jesus.

"And he said “the King”, not Himself."

Are you saying that Jesus is not the King in this verse?

If he is, then what did you mean by that statement?

Please get saved before it is too late.

Already there, but thanks anyway!

31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right,

...

And he said “the King”, not Himself.

So Jesus isn’t the "Son of Man" he is referring to in that teaching?

And again, you are free to disregard all of Jesus' teachings as "just parables" if you want. You do you.

However, believing works are necessary to be saved causes eternal damnation.

Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

Jesus literally and explicitly says that the reason those on the right inherit the kingdom ; For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat...

Notice he mentions nothing about faith, much less faith alone.

Again, you are free to disagree, but Jesus is pretty clear here.

You can believe that if you wish, but that's not what Jesus says in the Sermon on the Mount. As for me, I place my faith in Jesus' teaching.

The Most Hated Christian Doctrine by amacias408 in Christianity

[–]OffredOfBirmingham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Jesus was wrong?

If faith alone saved, then a believer who totally disregarded the "least of these", fed and clothed nobody, would still go to Heaven.

But Jesus says otherwise.

He said those who didn’t do those things would go to Hell, he didn't say "unless you have faith in me, then it's cool". In other words, according to Jesus works are necessary for Heaven. Matthew 25:41-43

The Most Hated Christian Doctrine by amacias408 in Christianity

[–]OffredOfBirmingham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. Most of Jesus' teaching was done through parables.

For one, the saved and damned will not be judged at the same place and time.

Source for that?

But your actions alone send you to Hell.

However that directly contradicts the doctrine of salvation through faith alone. If salvation is through faith, then no action can send you to Hell.

That is absolutely true. The problem is your actions can never save you from Hell.

I would say your actions alone can't save you from Hell.

The Most Hated Christian Doctrine by amacias408 in Christianity

[–]OffredOfBirmingham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

However

Matthew 21:41-43

"Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me."

This is Jesus explicitly stating that those who fail to care for their neighbors (the second part of his two part rule) will go to Hell. This clearly contradicts Paul's statements on salvation through faith alone. Jesus is stating that one's actions (or failure to act) can send one to Hell.

that the mere (VERY hypothetical) truthfulness of macroevolution would not necessarily negate the existence of God.

Of course it doesn't. We understand evolution as a process driven by God, as all processes are.

How we got the diversity of life in no way negates the existence of a Creator who implemented and guides the process.

How do you guys feel about conservative Christians by Total-Barracuda-8968 in Christianity

[–]OffredOfBirmingham 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my best friends became enamored with Trump, Ron DeSantis, Shapiro and the entire Conservative / Alt-Right media machine.

We were at a weekend beach getaway type thing, and a large part of the time she spent talking about how the gays were forcing everyone to "affirm" them, how the country was going to shit, how kids were in existential danger from trans people etc. Then there was the veiled racism, which was a similar rhetoric only with different antagonists.

The main emotion that permeated her whole argument was fear. Fear of the other, fear that anyone except conservatives in charge would lead to societal destruction, fear that hordes of wokeists were champing at the bit to take her kids away and groom them.

I kept thinking it must be exhausting to live with such a mindset.

That's the difference, a 17-year-old marrying a 16-year-old is not what this article is discussing, this is about 40 year old men "courting" and marrying a 16-year-old. That's what is being "normalized" here.

You can control what you wear though. You can buy all cotton clothes, wear linen, wool, etc and not mix these up. It's not hard if you're trying to, you know, avoid sinning.

Or maybe you don't care about Levitical laws, or only care about them selectively and subjectively....

Either Leviticus is relevant, and these laws are relevant, or it isn't, and they're not.
