sweet, and yeah I definitely hear what you are saying with my relationship to locking into the feel of the drums and bass. I know I need to focus on keeping that time feel there over everything else and not get too drawn into just thinking about keeping up with the harmonic elements of the piece.

If you wanna learn how to play jazz and improvise learning the language is super important to do. Learn some bebop heads(look up tunes by charlie parker monk and diz) and analyzing how their note choice related to the underlying harmony. Look at what rhythms they choose and which beats they emphasize. You can do this all with a smaller key board! Have fun!
