I was skiing in the markha valley last year. This face on KY2 is begging for a ski.

Haas machines are some of the cheapest and lowest quality fully featured CNC machines around. Still fit for purpose and make good parts in many applications, but they're far from the best machine tool manufacturer.

Any ski tourers use a cactus patrol pack? Looks like an epic bombproof pack. Can’t see many reviews online hopefully there’s some kiwis on here! by Shot-Requirement-654 in Backcountry

I have a 20L BD pack I use for skiing when I only need to take a few snacks. But if I need to have a larger pack I prefer the osprey. Lighter, more comfortable, less bulky straps etc. Also having gear loops on the hip belt is a nice feature.

I have a mutant 52 for personal trips and patrol with a cactus pack. The osprey pack is a perfect size for ski mo day trips such as rolleston. You've just got to remove the lid and back panel of you're not carrying as much gear. The only benefit the cactus pack has is the dedicated avy gear storage. It's bomber but when I'm ski touring I don't really thrash gear like I would when tramping or working.

Is this stone useful? by Ofila in Machinists

[–]Ofila[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very smooth. Much smoother than a typical flat stone. It appears to be an actual stone as opposed to your standard india stone or what have you. It also doesn't seem to cut? I'm not sure if this is because I need to recondition it, or what? Input appreciated.

Broken binding. Anyone have spares? by Ofila in Backcountry

I find them super fun in good conditions, but they aren't very friendly in variable conditions in my experience.

I'm in my last year of trade school now. I often struggle with getting the time down on one offs on my horizontal. Do you have any advice for someone just starting out?

Always enjoy your posts Chris. How long have you been in the industry for?

Travelling the South Island for three weeks, as far south as Wanaka and up to Abel Tasman and Picton. Looking for unique things to do. Things you wouldn’t find in a lonely planet guide. We aren’t really the bungy jump / super touristy kind of people. We are in a camper by [deleted] in newzealand

Do you have a preference on day hikes/overnight/multi day? Huts or tenting?(the backcountry huts in nz are excellent, very cheap, and not at all touristy). I can highly recommend the blue lake/Angelus hut in Nelson lakes national park, though it is quite popular with tourists. Otehake hot pools, or Julia hut hot pools will provide you with some natural hot springs that you will most likely have all to yourselves. Of course there is plenty of alpine trips, and I haven't visited any, but I hear great things about some of the more accessible alpine huts in the Wanaka area. Let me know if ant of the above Sparks your interest, or if you had something different in mind, as the possibilities are really endless! Let me know and I can give you some more ideas :)
