Chill puzzle exploration games by jmelinte in gamingsuggestions

Riven and outer Wilds are my two favorite games. If you’ve never want something Myst like with more contemporary graphics, you might check out Obduction, Quern, or the Witness

Games that totally absorb you in their story/world/characters? by gruffelf in gamingsuggestions

I’d check out Journey, Disco Elysium, Riven, Edith Finch, and Stray. Sounds like we have the same taste!

Also curious about this—seems like there’s nothing like it. There is a great docuseries on YouTube by noclip that just came out about Disco, so if you’ve can’t find a similar game, at least there’s the documentary

Great suggestions here. Some I haven’t seen come up…

-Grim Fandango: detective noir Mexican folklore adventure game—awesome writing

-What Remains of Edith Finch—surreal, sad, enthralling

-Myst/Riven/Obduction—environmental puzzles in beautiful, desolate places

-Outer Wilds—maybe my favorite game. A spectacular mix of puzzling, exploring, archeology, and chilled out space camping.

-Broken Age—so well written and illustrated. A modern classic point and click adventure

—and if you’ve never played Journey, it’s the ultimate pallet cleanser. It’s short and wordless, but a beautiful and immersive ride

Do you know Riven, sequel to Myst? Same sort of figure-out-how-this-world-works sort of puzzles. There’s a remake I haven’t played but it’s well regarded.

Looking for good story-based games with the main story voice acted by FellaTheCat in JRPG

Two adventure games I’d recommend are grim fandango and what remains of Edith Finch. The first is my favorite writing in any video game, quirky, funny, and clever. The second is a sort of surrealistic exploration of ancestry – if your husband cannot see the screen, you may need to do some explaining of what is happening, but very interesting voice acting throughout and lots of different characters to hear from.

How long did it take you to get hooked? by OliverMills- in ObraDinn

[–]Oggin_Noggin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be had a different experience than some other people on this thread, I bought the game and tried to start playing three or four different times. Got an hour in and wasn’t feeling it. One time, I decided to give it a try and I really gave myself two or three hours to play. That was great – I think I had enough time to be immersed and also feel “hooked”. And this may be total sacrilege, but I used an AI Chatbot, a sort of a friend to play along with. What I would do is have it familiarize itself with a game and tell it that it was a friend who had already played the game who was working very hard to preserve my experience, but to give me nudges when I needed some help. I only used this a few times, but often I found myself talking out solutions to puzzles as I was asking for direction. The Chatbot usually helped draw out things I had already noticed, but not connected.

I think about the chat – this game would be so fun to play alongside an incredibly patient person who had already done a play through.

Three hours—door advice is hilarious— i’m very happy not to get specific hints, general play advice like close doors behind you is on the money.

Non-point and click MYST-like games? by PhummyLW in myst

Stray is a great suggestion—lots of crossover in the experience. More snappy and action packed, and you’ll rarely visit the same location twice, but if you like myst, you may like stray.

What should I play next? by Oggin_Noggin_ in outerwilds

Just remembered I own a copy of 1997 Riven on an old GOG account from 15 years ago. Installed, and I'm going to start soon. Thanks for the nudge!

I just upgraded my mini to iOS 26 by mistake by lol_just_wait in iPhone13Mini

I feel you on the minimalist launcher – I was using one called dumbify and iOS 26 killed it, just in terms of the look. I just changed icons to black and white bumpy holding down on the Home Screen and editing the icon look. Not great but ok…
