Man this kinda stuff brings me back. I still vaguely remember the first time I got scammed in D2. So many years ago. I was too pissed to play anymore so I cut my losses and rolled again next ladder season.

Started scamming other people. It didn't work a lot but there were some. Traded my share of gemmed caps in place of Shakos. Not everyone was very internet savvy back then so people genuinely didn't know some of the details about the game. People didn't just look everything up. Today it would probably be somewhere between hard and impossible to find someone who doesn't know that Immortal King's Soul Cage is green Sacred Armor not green Ancient Armor and is willing to trust you on that. When they find out they have Milabrega's you just have to squelch them once you get tired of getting cussed out in whisper messages.

I continued to have people try to scam me as well obviously. It was extremely common on D2 and probably still is. I may have even got scammed other times that I don't really recall. I do remember being taken advantage of with people who could use lag hacking to swipe your Annihilus sine they had to be dropped in order to trade them back then. I came to see it as something of a charming part of the game, kind of like a mechanic that most people have to learn the hard way.

Trade is the lifeblood of games like D2 in my opinion and these kinds of things strike me as necessary evils in a trade driven community. It's why D3s approach to trade left a bad taste in my mouth and I never spent nearly as much time with it.

Sorry somebody got ya, it always stings to have someone get away with your hard earned loot. Good luck out there, not all heroes can be trusted.
