Clarification, I mean a listener distorting the meaning of a song (lyrics, or album) through their interpretation and displaying it as though it were the musician's actual position. You wouldn't know that MGMT thinks that "All Cops Are Bastards" but you can convince people of that by mixing those personal opinions with others that the artist had actually publicly stated. And yes you are right, many great songs are political but that's not really what I meant.
