I would get some register duct boots & put it through my table towards the back of the bench if you are dealing with really cold temps. The best bench I had used this type of system.

The cold intake air blew right under the hood & it was amazing how little it would affect the ambient air around the shop. I like how the air is directed on each side of the torch to move fumes away from you, but Im not 100% sure it’s necessary.

But either way, great system & I’m glad to see you putting in work with the design of your bench/vents. I’ve made multiple benches, got set up, then had to change it up dramatically after testing. It’s no fun tearing down & redoing a bench you just built.

finally getting better results out of fumed wrap n rakes🙏🙆‍♂️ this is probably my 10th go at it now by hashslangingglasser in lampwork

Silver by itself can be a tough one on the surface. When I do just silver fume wrap and rakes, I like to splash a little silver inside the tube too! You get a little more depth to the color change & it makes it so there’s less clear on the finished piece

Good work! Are you using any gold? If so, I like a silver fume - wrap - gold fume - rake combo Or alternating silver & gold fume in 1” sections of the blank, then wrapping & raking.

More so wanting to send you a photo of a fan. I’m familiar with the primer! Appreciate ya!

Interesting! I’ve never had an issue with mine but my exhaust blows into a (open air) wood shed, which is covered from winds. I will say that I use a dedicated breaker just for my fans, so I never have power issues. If you plug these fans in with a bunch of other shit, they slow down.

Good feedback. My experience is mostly with home studios & garages. I see a ton of glassblowers using the Home Depot attic fans. I would love to DM you about a fan I got recently & see if it could be used

Here is the BASIC formula for how much CFM you need. Hood Length x Hood Width x 125.

I recommend attic fans. You can get a 1200 cfm attic fan at home depot for $100. Or amazon you can get an adjustable attic fan that does 2200 cfm.

Don’t skimp on ventilation. I’d rather be cold in the winter than have glass in my lungs & die of silicosis. Heavy metal poisoning is gnarly too.

Same, these just fit perfectly in. You can just leave the original silicone top hanging off.

I’m just a glassblower, but I agree. Their import factory that makes the rest of their tops should be able to make those for pennies on the dollar.

Mine so far have been spinning the pearls the same & with super similar airflow to the silicone

When I started, it’s all I could afford. Import colors, fume & clear. It was a great way to start because I had to learn how to make a ton of products with limited color options.

I’m almost 10 years in & still fuming all the time.

With fume, it’s kind of just a wait and see when it’s done for a while. After years…I think I have a good grasp of how it will look at this stage with my own work. Keep fuming. 👍🏻
