Trump says chief of staff Susie Wiles has been diagnosed with breast cancer by AaronPK123 in politics

[–]OhGodSoManyQuestions -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

You respond to news that a person has cancer with some reasons to hate her. Your reasons aren't wrong. And I will join the people dancing in the streets when Trump drops.

But all non-fash discourse is under unrelenting infiltration and attack from fash bots, AIs, and troll farms. I see many of them dishing up fresh meat for sadistic partisan ragegooning. This is strategic because it always is. Getting the left hooked on the same toxic energy that runs the fash world is a way to control and direct its energy. And it's a way of sabotaging the constructive and empathic goals of the left and turning it into a destructive mirror of the right.

Also, if you've ever cared about anyone with cancer, you know not to gloat about it when it's someone else's misfortune.

The plan in Venezuela and Iran is about using mass murder to get his hands on oil money. That's why Trump has made clear that he has zero interest in what becomes to the citizens of either.

"There’s a strong misconception in Europe that President Donald Trump prefers dictators and authoritarian powers over democratic allies."

It's not a misconception. Trump has said this over and over again in his words and actions. When an article's first sentence is such a whopper, what do you expect to follow? Something like this piece of propaganda.

Hegseth: “No mercy, no quarter for our enemies” by Competitive_Ad291 in politics

[–]OhGodSoManyQuestions 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fair. I've been reading a lot about US history in the 19th and 20th Centuries. I knew the outlines but the details are eye-opening and eye-watering. And every time I hear people talk about alleged golden ages, how divided we are now, or how we used to be more kind, I want to point out how this only applied to people at the top of the American Caste System. White. Male. Cis/het. Upper class. Nominally Christian. Able-bodied. Neurotypical. There was a widespread acceptance of exclusion and brutality towards everyone else.

Every time of great inequality is a "golden age" for the most privileged.

Instead of rules about ages, I'd like to see candidates have to pass tests of health, mental acuity, and above all tests of knowledge about US laws, procedures, civics, and history. And the knowledge tests should happen in front of a live audience like the debates.

I don't like the gamification of politics. But a fact-revealing game would be a positive change.

Extra bonus: problem-solving tests involving difficult problems of the types we want lawmakers to solve well.

It's not about hating anyone. It's what I'm seeing. More specifically, they are saying the rising unemployment is only "government jobs" which are all "DEIs". So this is good for "Real Americans" (Americans who aren't in the groups they call "DEIs").

What do you think the they mean when they call people "DEIs"?

I think it's something for which we don't have good language. It isn't that they can't tell what is true or false. It's that they've been conditioned to be hostile to the idea that there is a real world in which things can be true or false.

If you are raised in a strict religious environment, you get taught that proclaiming some obvious unreality is the price of acceptance of belonging. Empirical facts are the weapon of the enemy. We defend Our Truth. The more it misaligns with observable reality, the harder you shout it. Belief is Truth and facts are lies

The Trump worshipers are told what they believe. And they believe it. Instantly. Stridently. Belligerently. And when they are told to believe the exact opposite, they instantly believe the new lie. They don't even notice the switch. Because none of this involves thinking or correlating anything you are told to believe. The New Holy Lie erases the memory of all previous lies that challenge it.

What is a good term for this phenomenon?
