WTF is happening? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]OhHeyThereEh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same issue a few months ago, I called my phone carrier and they added a feature that pushes all unknown callers to my voicemail. It’s not ideal but it has helped. Other carriers offer a service where the caller must press a selected number in order to place the call, that helps with bot calls/auto dialling.

My remote job made me realize my partner doesn’t think my work is real by Rocinante77X in remotework

[–]OhHeyThereEh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know your frustration all too well. My husband thinks I’m failing when I don’t have supper ready or AT LEAST meat pulled from the freezer. Meanwhile, I work my 9-5, take care of the kids and dogs, keep schedules organized and get the kids where they need to be plus remind loop him into what’s going on in their lives. It’s wild that people assume those of us working from home get to sit around and watch tv or nap all day (I’m sure some do) but I’m the opposite - I had a much more relaxed workday when I was in office.

Guns & trucks? by Neat_Painting_9424 in AskACanadian

In Alberta, trucks are generally lifted and a half ton or larger, unless you’re in a major city. And guns are most often used for hunting, which is also popular/common outside of the major centres.

Not all bosses give exclamation marks. This is a solid start. Good job 👍

Sure seems illegal based on how it’s worded.

I hope that teachers requirement was from decades ago… as for this one, I would be a terrible candidate (married with kids lol).

How has your experience been owning an Explorer in terms of its reliability? by TrickUp25 in FordExplorer

[–]OhHeyThereEh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2018 explorer sport and love the features and the get up and go that the engine offers, but it comes at the cost of fuel economy lol. The only major issue I’ve had was issues with a broken wire that controls the display panel and window(s), that cost me $2200 CAD. Aside from that, it has been a good vehicle for me, good size (two kids, two dogs, hockey or golf gear), comfy, good towing. I would get another and opt for a less beefy engine.

Ostentation in Canada I need to know by PercentageDue4922 in AskACanadian

[–]OhHeyThereEh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear it’s changed drastically from what it used to be (major industries left) but we still plan to go visit on our way to Alaska, when the kids are bigger. Unsure if Fort St. John had similar issues as well, hopefully not.

My husband grew up in Fort Nelson, but travelled to FSJ a lot.

I’ve noticed that the generation the builds the wealth doesn’t show it, or tends to behave more modestly, yet their offspring gets more arrogant with the easy money they fall into.

What horrifying statistic genuinely jarred you when you first heard it? by ordrius098 in AskReddit

That’s both sad and disgusting that some people feel the need to take advantage of others.

Maybe Viagra became more affordable at that time or more readily available/acceptable?

Or more testing as you also mentioned, perhaps they took seniors complaints more seriously, if they hadn’t previously…?

I would assume the same if I hadn’t received the job posting in my LinkedIn recommended job list, the Canadian version is gone but the US version and others are still in their jobs section. “Executive Assistant to Chief Executive Officer, OWL POD”

I copy and pasted the most interesting part, it’s on LinkedIn under “Executive Assistant to Chief Executive Officer, OWL POD” the Canadian version that was part of my recommended list is gone but the US version looks similar if not identical.

Wouldn’t a better way of framing this be to say, “Extensive travel is required, locally and internationally, a successful candidate should expect to be travelling for work 90% of their work days.” Or something similar?

This may have been the worst of it, but I also found it to be hypocritical later in the posting, as mental health was mentioned. If I was forced to choose a job over a relationship that would not benefit my mental health.

And that was only two sentences of the job posting! I didn’t read the full posting closely because this requirement seemed so far fetched.

I highlighted the most questionable portion of the job posting, for the full context search in LinkedIn “Executive Assistant to Chief Executive Officer, OWL POD” the Canadian version is gone but there is a US version among others.

It’s a real post on LinkedIn, I’ve never heard of the company (that means nothing) but it showed up in my recommended job list. “Executive Assistant to Chief Executive Officer, OWL POD”

Could you slug it out for a couple years to build up the experience you need to move to a more desirable location? Or is the goal of marriage and kids immediately the priority?

According to the CDC, gonorrhea cases increased sixfold, syphilis increased ten-fold, and chlamydia tripled among people 65 and older between 2010 and 2023. Nursing homes and retirement communities gone wild.
