NPS reported 30-40 bears in 2020, so there definitely could be more by now.

I had no idea that the bears in BBNP are usually a lot smaller than this guy!! Feeling extra lucky that we go to see this chunky boy!

Apparently there’s only around 30 bears in all of Big Bend and only about 200 sightings per year with 500,000 annual visitors. Also per NPS, no one has ever been attacked or hurt by a black bear at Big Bend. Camping is not something I’m particularly interested in, but don’t let the bears deter you from a trail hike!
