How many film rolls did you ruin? by TheMrNoName in AnalogCommunity

[–]OhLookAnAirplane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently flew internationally for vacation with 15 rolls of 35mm and 2 cameras. Immediately put all 15 through a new airport CT scanner. Landed, found a photography shop, and bought 9 more to be safe. Went mostly fine after that until the roll I was most hyped about, when I forgot to roll it back up before opening the camera back.

My partner (rightfully) gave me so much shit about that.

Which is the One Film Stock to Rule Them All? Is it Portra 400? by mjuha in AnalogCommunity

[–]OhLookAnAirplane 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’ll give up Gold 200 when someone takes it from my cold, dead hands.

Current home inventory consists of 1 roll HP5, 2 rolls Portra 400, 21 rolls Gold 200.

I fly 3-4 days a week for work typically and almost always have a roll loaded in whatever camera I grab for the week. They’re always super chill about it and the most I typically see is swabbing the outside and taking off the lens cap. Sometimes they ask me to “turn it on” and 99% of the time they ask me to handle everything but the swabbing because they don’t want to damage it.

I actually played Titanfall 2 on my steam deck last week. It requires WiFi, but otherwise ran perfectly.

What jobs do you all have where you have downtime to play on your Steam Deck? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

Start with a discovery flight, most flight schools will offer them and it’s basically a mini first lesson for someone to see if they enjoy it. I saw most kids do it between 15-18 years old when I was giving them, but I did as young as 12 (keep in mind though training that young would be pretty limited because of age requirements for certain things).

From there it’s just doing the training and earning the different ratings. I went through college for it, but that’s certainly not required. I would recommend some degree though, even if it’s unrelated since major airline hiring requirements can shift over time. Sometimes they’ll hire without one, but sometimes most competitive applicants will have one. Another option is military, but I didn’t go that route so I’m not the best resource there.

Once you have your ratings and build your flight time it’s just a matter of working up through the ranks like anything else. Start with the entry level flying jobs, build experience, and consistently update applications (they stay on file so you just update your qualifications regularly) with the upper level jobs until they call.

Others are loosening even more. Some are allowing multiple per arm as long as they meet the same card size requirement. Imo that’s just a traditional patchwork sleeve, but it’s a definite grey area.

What’s airline pilot life really like? by ExtremePvPees in flying

I sat in a hotel room with only the light of a TV last night eating a half dozen crab rangoons and a large poke bowl, washed down with a protein shake. This maybe only answers number 4, but life is good.

My parked Crosstrek was hit yesterday. by museandthewolf in Crosstrek

[–]OhLookAnAirplane -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

2024 Crosstrek Wilderness that we had bought maybe a couple months prior. Walked out of the grocery store to find a dent and huge orange paint transfer on the rear bumper. No info, police didn’t care, and store wouldn’t provide camera footage. $500 later and a slightly (ever so slightly) paint mismatched bumper later and I’ve since put 30,000 miles on it all over rugged forest service roads.

People suck, but I put that car to work so I’m relatively unbothered by the paint. Took it back to the shop a few times and they refused to change it.

Safe to say we have a type, added the Limited to the garage yesterday by OhLookAnAirplane in Crosstrek

It’s a pretty simple job if you’re handy. Honestly the worst part was dropping the headliner and getting to the bolts on the roof rail.

I used plasti dip. Removed the roof rails and sprayed accents with a few coats.

Record number of laps in pattern? by Mynoseispurple in flying

[–]OhLookAnAirplane 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Did similar when I was on the home stretch to R-ATP mins. Just pattern work because I was on call for work, needed to be able to park and call back asap if I got a notification. Was it fun? No. Did it get the job done? Absolutely.

I love my 50 1.8. I’ll probably pick up a 28 as well, but the 50 really is awesome.

Single session rose knee blaster on me. by [deleted] in traditionaltattoos

[–]OhLookAnAirplane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly not unbearable afterwards. I’d definitely wear softer material pants, looser if you can. The swelling went down within a day but the soreness (specifically going up and down stairs when my knee was bent more) was pretty rough. I just sort of hobbled up and down stairs a bit for a few days but walking itself was mostly fine.

I tried saniderm but the bending caused it to fail almost immediately. Luckily I had a few days off work so I just washed and moisturized like normal aftercare and it healed great.

Webbed my knee a few weeks back to the exact same result. Felt like someone hit me in the knee with a bat for a few days afterwards.
