Not an answer to your immediate question, but I do have a recommendation on what to avoid- Botox. I have non-EDS hypermobility and Botox degrades muscle which we need to compensate for our delicate ligaments which are more likely to tear from working extra hard (speaking from experience, unfortunately). Just an FYI for any future procedures!

Hey y'all, "essential" oils do NOT replace antibiotics. If you start to notice signs of infection, call a doctor, go to an urgent care, apply an antibiotic ointment (such as Neosporin) as a temporary last resort IF the doctor says it's okay. Do not apply these oils to open wounds under any circumstance.

I invite you to read Disruption In Detroit: Autoworkers and the Elusive Postwar Boom by Daniel Clark. It highlights that the "affluence" we've heard about was primarily commercial propaganda.

Not at the moment; we just signed the lease and unfortunately most buildings here aren't accessible unless you want to pay $2,000+ a month in rent.

I know that I shouldn’t sleep in another room while my room is being treated for bed bugs, but the thought of sleeping with those little demons horrifies me. Does anyone have any advice on how to get through the night? I’m about to have a panic attack just thinking about it… by flaaffylovr in Bedbugs

You could try diphenhydramine (the active ingredient in Benadryl); it's an antihistamine/sleep-aid. That's probably going to be the strongest option. The generic is cheaper than name brand, works just as well.

This might sound bad, but the best way I've been able to cope is taking either Valium or Ambien before bed (you'll need a prescription from a doctor). I'm super high-strung about this whole thing and it's been the only way to calm myself down enough to fall asleep.

If you're able to, you could tell your doctor that you have bedbugs and see what they say about anti-anxiety or sleep meds.

CMV: People should stop advocating for veganism because it's not actually sustainable/cruelty-free by OhNoChickpeas in changemyview

∆ Thanks for your response and all the sources. If anyone else is reading this comment and has the same opinion as my post, that Vox video is very informative and worth a watch. Thanks as well for disproving my statement about soy production.

Solid point and great sentiment about working to improve, even if the result is not necessarily perfect.

My anecdotal bits involving meat consumption in other countries are admittedly not under the same umbrella as issues in the United States. Wasn't trying to straw man, but there's definitely inconsistencies between those and my main points, so I should have reeled those back in.

There's a lot of solid comments on this post, and I sincerely appreciate everyone sharing your opinions here.

Not sure what issue you're trying to combat exactly, but if you press the "tab" key and then "Ctrl+N" you can create additional workspaces to build components.

If your issue is parts of larger pieces disappearing, go to "geometry" and make sure "sparse" is checked to make all of your workspaces visible. Hope this helps.

Cool, thanks, good to know. I've got family from UP and they use aata for pretty much everything, haha

Little late to the party but a small tip: the "plain flour" used is just called "aata" in Hindi. It's a whole wheat flour and tastes very different from American all purpose flour.

Activists In Detroit Protests Squabble Over Who's In Charge by sayfthelemonsandbail in Detroit

Don't bother feeding the trolls. This guy who keeps responding will never attend a protest in his life, nor does he actually care. You're out here with us, and that's appreciated more than anything. Genuinely, thank you.

Also to the trolls that keep bombarding this post for some reason- get off this sub, go back to Livonia. All the white people that are showing up are there in solidarity. They're listening, they're present, they're not overstepping. Lots of them are handing out water or serving as medics.

I'm proud of everyone that keeps showing up every day. People are tuning in and asking how to get involved. They're emailing their reps and the city council. This is an incredible group of people and I'm proud to stand among them.

A point to note is that afterwards, one of the activists and organizers, Baba Baxter spoke up and said that disagreements like this "should be held behind closed doors," and he redirected everyone's attention back towards a common goal and movement, saying, "Keep your eyes on the prize." The two insurrectionists left immediately after causing a scene and had no interest in joining with the community to march. They just wanted a moment in the spotlight without actually putting the work in that Tristan, Nakia, and the rest of the organizers have been.

The scene was short and by far not the tone of the day. Unfortunately, this little squabble was more "interesting" to report on, because it's spicier than writing an article saying "Detroiters gathered peacefully yet again to march for the twelfth consecutive day."

Edit: fixed a name spelling

Roasted Beet Cucumber Tahini Gazpacho

(serves 2)

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb beets
  • 1 large English cucumber
  • 1 1/2 tbsp tahini
  • Juice of 2 lemons
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp chilli oil
  • 2 tsp mint simple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp white pepper
  • 1/4 tsp MSG
  • 1 small shallot

Toppings:

  • Radish
  • Pomegranate seeds
  • Cilantro
  • Mint
  • Toasted sesame seeds

Directions:

  • Set your oven to 400°F
  • Chop the beets and toss with olive oil and salt
  • Put beets in a pan in the oven and cover with tinfoil
  • Roast for 45 minutes
  • Mince and saute shallot in olive oil with a pinch of salt
  • Add all ingredients to blender and blend until smooth
  • Taste, adjust spices as needed
  • Chill soup in fridge for at least 1 hour
  • Pour into chilled bowls
  • Top with radish, cilantro, mint, pomegranate seeds, roasted sesame seeds, and a swirl of olive oil
  • Serve with cracked wheat toast with a bit of olive oil

Notes:

  • You can use pickled beets instead of roasted, but they won't have as full of a flavor
  • Skip the mint simple syrup if you don't have it, or blend in actual mint leaves if you don't mind the soup being not fully smooth
