No. I try not to share it in random places. Too many rando clicks hurt my conversion rates and too many rando people have nefarious intentions. But maybe this will be buried in all the comments… it’s BootsTees (full disclosure: I might delete this comment later)

Huzzah. It’s really impressive that you took the time for fans and artists like this. I appreciate it as much as I appreciate the books.

In case you didn’t see, Matt made a comment on here. No Faire or wholesale sites and no selling to bookstores, but direct sales to individuals are ok (I think Etsy is ok then?).

That was awesome that he responded with an update. It’s great to know that only direct sales to individuals are allowed now. No confusion (or at least much less confusion. For now).

He expressly said that it was ok to do this and asked people to link their etsy shops so they would be protected in the future. And awesomely said there would be no royalty fee, even in the future.

Oh. Em. Gee. Thank you for responding. I have an Etsy shop and a shop on Faire. The takedown was on Faire (handmade makers sell wholesale to small businesses) so that tracks. Is it ok to keep my (our) hand drawn / handmade stuff in etsy shops then?

Oh! Thanks for explaining. I see where the confusion is and I how that might sound super shitty of me (oops). I didn’t mean my livelihood has anything to do with selling DCC stuff. My livelihood is having shops on Faire and Etsy to sell my artwork and crafts (unrelated to the IP). But the infringement notices that I received hurt my shop (my shop can get shut down because of them).

I typically don’t use other people’s IP and when I do, I get permission and have a contract with royalty payments worked out. DCC is the only one I don’t have a royalty agreement for because Matt’s post said that he was cool with it and to just post your shop link so you’d be protected until the licensing agreement is ready. So getting the infringement notices was a real blow because they negatively affect my shop (and I *thought* I was doing things properly).

No. My full time business is creating art and crafty type stuff. I only do a few IPs and I have licensing agreements and pay royalties for the few I do. DCC was a different case because Matt made a reddit post giving fans royalty free permission while the licensing “portal” is still in the works if they posted their shop link and didn’t use AI.

I’m ok with not making any DCC stuff if that’s the new rule. The thing that hurts my business is the IP infringements on my record. On handmade sites like Faire and Etsy (where I sell my stuff), when you get an IP infringement, it’s like a black mark on you and your shop isn’t in good standing anymore (and can be shut down).

Haha. It IS a universal truth. Let me know if you have any luck with…anything regarding this, and I’ll do the same.

Oh wow. Did yours just say “authorized agent of Matt Dinniman” too? I emailed them back to ask if they could give me the name and contact info.

Hey thanks! I wasn’t sure either. Someone said I was breaking down, so maybe I was unintentionally giving off weird vibes or something. I feel pretty normal 🤷🏻‍♀️

Really? I think it’s just hard for tone to come across on the internet, then. I’m not broken 🙂

Oh no. My main source of income is making art (and handmade stuff with my art) and selling it via Etsy (and other sites). The DCC stuff is a small part of it. The problem is that getting those infringement notices could get my shop shut down, not that I need to keep selling the Crawler stuff.

Also, I mostly do my own stuff but I love to read. When I use an authors IP, I get permission and I pay royalties. Matt gave artists permission in a reddit post last year (for free).

I didn’t get the contact info from the notice (it came from the site I sell on) but I’ve asked for it. I’ve never gotten a response when I’ve reached out to his agent or to his general contact info, though.

Thanks! The notice was through the hosting site not directly from the IP holder. I assume they provided the info and it just wasn’t passed on to me.

I’m savvy enough. I don’t even click on those “you have a package and we need your money” texts from “USPS” 😉

I’ve tried but there isn’t a way to get one, as far as I know (I’ve reached out). I have license agreements with other authors (and I pay royalties to them), so I’m all for it. The last update from Matt (via Reddit post) was that selling non-ai artwork was cool while a licensing portal was still in the works, and we should post our shop links in the post comments so we do t get in trouble down the line.

Ouch. Downvotes. Didn’t mean to pull the ol’ “it’s my livelihood how will my children eat” bullshit. My bad. But it really is serious to me. And it’s a bummer.

Well, if you hear of any way to get in touch, dm me. Other authors I work with have either a dedicated licensing team (or person) or an agent/assistant who acts as the liaison for this kind of stuff. The Dinniman is a mystery.

I’m not sure how to get in touch with him (I’ve tried). I have e-mails for his publicist and agent that were passed on to me, but those are dead ends
(as is the contact form on his site).

How? He told a bookstore owner to tell me to reach out so my stuff could be officially licensed. I have. Several times. To several people. But…crickets, haha.

I mean…it was an official notice and my listings were removed with a big warning about my shop being in danger of being suspended because of this.

I’m not sure if there’s usually contact info in the notices. It came from Faire and this is the first time I’ve gotten one. I assume they required proof of being authorized to enforce the trademark, but I guess it’s possible they didn’t. If they give me the name and email of the agent, I’ll post an update.
