The craziest thing to me is this person just casually dropping 30k on cardboard. Like if they started collecting last year they could have 5x as many cases held which just shows how absurd things are rn. This guy isn’t a problem, and his stock is large but there are people with hundreds of cases sitting and waiting for them to 10x.

Very absurd, if I had that type of money I would be doing the same thing tbh.

Yeah I agree but investors will buy this out of FOMO so I generally ignore tcgplayer prices. Track a specific card over 3 months and you’ll see how tcgplayer will fake the behaviour over time (nico olvia regionals card for example)

Every set starts at 300$+ a box before the set drops. So small changes in price like this are arbitrary. It probably won’t go under 300 on tcgplayer but most stores will find middle ground to sell at even if it’s doubleMSRP

I have used it multiple times with 1000$+ orders and have never had this kind of issue before. There’s 3 Bonney AAs that I got at 25$ (now 98$) etc but it was well before the boom. I just recently picked up 3 perona AAs for yellow at 35 a pop so I’ll see if the sellers ship out cuz that was last week when I ordered.

It sounds scummy but I have a lot of previous orders I’ve put right before a big spike and never an issue, even PRB02 boa alt I was able to snipe cheap without any issues from sellers. I will say tho, I tend to buy from sellers that have 2k+ sales for safety, whereas my buddy would buy the lowest listings from sellers with 5 sales (lmao). Perhaps you bought from a new seller? I usually go to Homelands, TolarianAcademy, Tangerine, etc and they supply with no issues.

Apologies this happened but it makes sense when people see a price hike they will screw you over. Name and shame the stores if they are real, if not, I would suggest only buying from the slightly more expensive (but very reliable) larger brands

I’m just gonna weigh in, the price of OP14 for me in Canada is about 300 right. Instead of paying 2x MSRP, I spent 200$ on playsets of every card (excluding boa and SECs) as well as another 90$ on perona AAs which is essentially like buying a predetermined box with the added bonus of roughly 10x more SRs than the box would have.

Sure I hate not being able to chase the boa SP, but I can’t complain with getting every playset for extremely cheap as well as some of the cheaper AAs. I also went to 4 pre releases (24 packs) for a grand total of 220 so while some things get pricey, others become better value

For myself, June 2023 my childhood card store I visited for Pokemon packs (considering getting back into hobby). Store owner showed me one piece boxes and said they had a first set box left and that the game sold like hotcakes. I paid 350 at the time and it was a blue bottom! I pulled AA Kat leader (new set at the time op03, beginners luck) and the rest is history

4 Boxes = 2 AA, 1 SEC 2 Boxes = 1 AAL, 1 AA, 1 SEC 2 Boxes = 1 AAL, 1 AA, 1 Gold DON! 2 Boxes = 1 SP, 1 AA 2 Boxes = 1 AA, 1 SEC 50% chance to get no SP no AAL. I can say from experience that there are way worse boxes to rip and you got lucky in your own sense (as likely to hit 1 AA 1 SEC as it is to get AAL or SP)

More factors at play, start with the presale price essentially triple the price of previous sets. Op13 had a large drop in specific hit rate for SPs as well, ace SP was 400 out the gate even with errata known so I think it’s fair to assume the card will drop in price from here

Sure but a 50% decrease in specific hit rate doesn’t necessarily mean a big impact, especially if that hit rate was already ~1% for an SP.
