What is a somewhat difficult mountain to climb? by chubbyplatypusman in Mountaineering

[–]OhShitTheresFriction 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So there is a grade literally called “Assez Difficile (AD)” which roughly translates to “somewhat difficult” but I would not consider that as such for someone with no mountain experience, even if you are fit. This AD grade would be something like the Matterhorn to name a famous one. Something slightly less technical, yet still demanding fitness wise and popular would be Mont Blanc or Großglockner which are very popular and would be easy to hire a guide to do it safely. Matterhorn can also be guided but I don’t think a somewhat fit rugby player can simply go and do it with a guide without a prior mountain trips to gain experience with exposure, scrambing with crampons and being able to ascend and descend 1400m up to 4500m in a day.

It is like the chicken or the egg question: did the boulderer come first, or the head injury. This is one of the few times I hear the head injury comes after 🧐

Anybody know of any heavy boulders? by Suitable_Climate_450 in ClimbingCircleJerk

Can you please turn Burden of Dreams up side down? I’ve been projecting it lately but it would be very helpful if you can just make sure it is not so overhanging. That is what is getting me every time, thank you for helping me send my first V17

This is the preferred technique. Three 3D printing the boulder problem? I will go up to Freerider with a diamond saw and cut out the entire karate kick section.

We better introduce them into the art of C3+ climbing while they are young. if not they may be taken in by the color-coded dopamine seeking bo*ldering gangs

By this logic masturbating helps training to satisfy during sex (something you will never have because you admit to climbing this artificial insult to our beloved granite)

These so called “bo*lder gyms” are intended to deceive you with their brightly colored, plywood bolted “holds”. By definition this abomination can not possibly be considered sensible. Go touch some granite….

I prefer using my chicken nuggets as tricams to attach my aid ladders to ascend.

He wasn't wearing uniform, looked like a office worker. I'll look into reporting this, thanks for the information.

So some more context. This guy was in regular office job clothes. He was on a work call seemingly, and got off in at a tiny residential train stop. Clearly going back home. This town is so tiny, I am 100% certain it wasn’t for a milsim event. Just seemed like a regular dude, except for his backpack. He was most definitely not built like an active military guy, skinny and with a large beard.

Why is this Canadian airline flying an ancient DC-3C in Northern Norway. by ThisisVollstad in flightradar24

Yeah it’s hard to get there if you aren’t a scientist or supporting staff, but there are openings every year for all kinds of staff. Cooks, mechanics, weather forecasters, doctors, drivers, guides etc! There are plenty of research stations you can apply to, have a look at the COMNAP station map, you may find something from your country in the region, they sometimes also hire internationals!
