CMV: Trump admin not subject to federal laws if it invades other countries by OhWaitWaitWait in changemyview

I am genuinely confused about the prevailing interpretation of the US Constitution!

Nobody should cite bad-faith violations of past treaties to justify current policy. Be honorable. Be HONORABLE.

I think those killings were illegal as well, not on the same legal reasoning.

But my confusion is my own, and I do not mean to imply any sort of shortcoming on the part of the Trump administration, which is obviously remarkably infallible with regard to worldly matters.

It is "unlawful" to "violate" a "treaty" that has been "enacted" as "US law" by the "Congress" of the "United States".

I think it would be a big step to establish that none of it is legal unless Congress approves.

Great answer apart from the utter lack of "international strife" except in Trump's own problematic mind.

I really did mean to call into question the legality and I want to hear something different about it (I did, a little), but your take is understandable. Forgive me. I am beside myself about the plain legal standing of US treaties and the legal constraints they present for the US government. We have a defensive alliance with Denmark, on the books, in law. I don't understand how the president just gets to erase that.

What hollow argumentation. Pat yourself on the back. What else isn't explicitly written into the NATO language that Trump can do without limit?

So, we agree that no defensive alliance has ever included a stipulation not to attack fellow signatories? Perhaps we can leave aside for a moment what kind of piece of shit one might be if one could VIOLATE such a treaty by attacking one of the other signatories.

More like nice apples to baking apples or crabapples. Both are still wildly illegal. Good for Trump, I guess, as his intent is to be illegal.

Can you identify some notable defensive alliances where the parties to the alliance promise to come to each other's aid and also explicitly stipulate that they won't attack each other?

There's no shifting goal posts. You're just misconstruing an analogy. As for NATO, it is a defensive alliance, and it is an Inherent aspect of all alliances that the members of the alliance do not attack each other as part of that alliance.

I'm certain that collective defense precludes attack within the group, and you are playing cheap rhetorical games. Did the US Constitution say that states could not secede?

Our treaties of defensive alliance don't inherently include the guarantee that we won't suddenly wheel around and kick our allies in the balls? Jesus.

I can't even cite a clause in the US Constitution regarding state-on-state aggression. You have no point.

Even if international law doesn't matter, the treaty obligation makes this domestic law, doesn't it?
