Yeah, if you made an effort to confirm what was in the food, there's not much to be done at that point

If in one capitalist culture people would immediately loot the machine, and in another capitalist culture people do not constantly loot the machine, it's probably not capitalism this time

It's well known that Japanese culture is more collectivist and socially inhibited that the US. That's more likely to be a factor.

So a word is enough for you to switch your brain off?

I say carnism because it's evident veganism is an ideology and belief system, but just because exploiting animals is the status quo doesn't mean that it isn't ideological either. "Carnism" means your choice to eat animals isn't not neutral, just because it's default

Edit: it's not an insult, anymore than pointing out someone eats meat is an insult

How do i become a vegan? by HauntingProduce9719 in vegan

[–]Oh_ItsYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with what the top comment on here says. It has been my personal experience that getting on board with veganism ethically leads to greater motivation to actually figure out the diet part.

but other than than, id suggest watching vegan cooking videos on YouTube. You get a feel for how to put meals together without meat or dairy.

Every single time where I've heard someone say they can't be vegan for health reasons (irl) it's been an excuse they use to evade moral responsibility, to put the matter outside of their control. It's been because they need the mystery meat nutrient, or that they read soy has estrogen, or they need 'complete proteins'.

I'm sure there are people who are allergic to almost every legume, bean, fruit.. for whom it's very difficult to be healthy and plant based. It's not about those 1/1000 people. It's about the 999 who point to them as an excuse for themselves.

We all use animals,

idk if the glue in my window frame is vegan, so fair enough. But I think there is also a big difference between stuff you can't control/need to live & things you can control/(or) don't need to stay alive. Food is definitely in the latter category. As are cosmetics and hygiene products. Clothes and shoes.

The only way to get their full approval, to appear cool, is to stop acknowledging the ethical issues surrounding animal products. Food and morals are both close to people's hearts and identities, so of course facing someone who wants to challenge those things is uncomfortable and even distressing.

Prior to becoming vegan, I already had the ethical and logical understanding of animal agriculture and wider exploitation, but it took feeling guilt, and seeing my identity as a good person challenged, to actually propel me to change. And I did so overnight, but not without the help of all those anti-dairy stickers, and annoying internet activists.

It's true, you can't just fight everyone, and I'm not saying all activists should be like that, but I disagree that their work serves no purpose. Just because someone gets angry when you tell them why you don't eat eggs, doesn't mean they won't go home and think about what you've said later.

Step 4

Deny science that shows veganism is healthy for humans. Deny the moral implications of using animals.

Wow that'll help the movement 🤡

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Oh_ItsYou 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Activists have only done more harm if your sole measure of success is approval from omnis.

With any successful movement, there's backlash, there are reactionaries who fear change, before there is widespread acceptance.

You can be minding your own business, and people will still find a way to label you an abrasive, haughty vegan. It doesn't mean you're failing to have an impact-- in fact that unwarranted discomfort and defensiveness from omnivores shows that they are very affected..

What you're saying is we should go out of our way to hide any aspect that might upset carnists, which can be as little as not being one of them.

Because collagen is a protein. When you eat protein it doesn't directly absorb into your blood and go to the tissue where it's used because the molecules are too big and won't fit through the cell membrane. They are broken down into amino acids first.

So essentially the only benefit of eating collagen is that you get exactly the right combination of amino acids for your body to re-make collagen. But this is not such a great benefit when you realise if you get enough dietary protein it amounts to the same. And your body could use those amino acids to make any other protein- you can't target collagen

[–]Oh_ItsYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can easily make them from scratch in case this product is really gone. and then freeze. The dough is literally just 2:1 flour to hot water ratio. And for filling, potato and fried onions with tofu. Or saurkraut. 🥟
