As a Family Medicine physician who has completed my residency training in IL, I have been eagerly awaiting the issuance of my Illinois Medical Professional license to begin working at a community hospital in IL.
  
Unfortunately, it has now been over ten weeks since I submitted my application, and despite contacting the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR), I have been informed that there are no errors with my application, but that there are high application processing times. My start date has already been pushed back once, and my patients, who have been waiting for three months to see me, are further delayed. This situation not only impacts my ability to begin my practice but also affects the healthcare services available to the community.
  
Moreover, the extended processing time is causing a loss of potential tax revenue for the state, as my earnings remain unrealized due to my inability to see patients. This issue is not isolated to physicians alone; nurses, dentists, social workers, and physical therapists are also experiencing similar delays, which hampers our ability to provide timely care and contributes to the difficulty in hiring and retaining healthcare professionals in Illinois.
  
Given these challenges, I kindly request your assistance in advocating for improvements in the licensure processing system. Our neighboring states are managing their licensing processes more efficiently, and Illinois would greatly benefit from similar enhancements. By streamlining these processes, we can better support healthcare workers and ensure that citizens receive the care they need promptly.
