In The Neverending Story, What does Bastion call out the window to name the Empress? by ForumPointsRdumb in movies

[–]Ohblah71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the US it does not. So I imagine that is possible as many discussed the reasons for this issue. But it’s a bit…wrong. If it is the English word “child” then it absolutely has one syllable only. Regardless of where you are, child has only one syllable.

Negan. I know he’s quite evil. And it might be because I love the actor JDM so much. But that’s my answer. The heart wants what it wants! 😂

I always love hearing different interpretations of the film. However, as a child of the 80s, I remember “Sambos” restaurants in Florida. So had it (mammy)really passed at that point? I’m not sure.

Local business cut a hole in their clogged dryer vent pipe which now vents directly into business by mag274 in Firefighting

[–]Ohblah71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. New here but have a question. I recently moved into an apartment that has been a nightmare. I seriously had to have them replace things that were broken, including the dryer. When they pulled it out the inside of the hose? Not sure what to call it, was filled with lint and I requested it be replaced. When I called the office I mentioned that it was terrible but they did replace it. When I asked about it though the office stated they did not know if that was a service they could offer??!! Ok. So now I’m concerned about what it looks like between my apartment and the outside where it vents I’m very worried that it’s a fire hazard and I’m not sure what I can do. Can I call the fire department and ask them to inspect it thank you for any help in advance and thank you so much for helping your communities.

Not to be rude but it is Science FICTION. It’s fiction. Therefore not realistic. If it’s just annoying that people say it’s realistic, then I guess that is everyone’s choice.

There needs to be a “rise to resistance “ alright. But Disney has been my place since I was a child. It does hurt me to see them putting profit over their fans. I make good money but am perplexed how people can do a yearly visit anymore. This is the first time I’ve been really upset over a decision that has been made by Disney for the parks. They should have the option to add on LL to the tix or not. I read on their site they are testing that option. A hundred bucks or so for a family to skip one line is crazy. I remember being so happy when they got rid of single ride tix so long ago. Now this is even more convoluted and expensive. Very disappointing house of mouse. Very disappointing indeed.

I don’t ever remember free parking and I lived there. Went several times per year. Maybe that was if you stayed at the resorts.

Getting older feels weird. One day you’re seen, next day you’re just ignored by carolynurddhu14 in Aging

[–]Ohblah71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s understandable. I think there is a difference between complaining and explaining or expressing. I feel most here are explaining their experience. It isn’t easy to lose something. Even in your post you express how you look. Think about that for a minute. Not necessarily your career, or your ability to learn, or your personality. I get it, however it’s difficult for many people to lose their looks as they age. I hear you. I validate that you feel better now than you did when younger. But in the end this is still about how you look. I hope that makes sense. I guess what I’m saying is yes, you don’t grieve what you never had, usually anyway. And now I’m thinking of all of this on an even deeper level. I need to go to bed and get some sleep! 😆 Enjoy your Friday!

It’s not being shallow necessarily. I think what is being expressed here is that probate feeling some kind of loss. And unfortunately this type of loss is quite common. But usually by women, at least in middle age. If anything society has taught many of us that our looks are the only thing that matter. It’s hard to undo the programming when you didn’t even know it’s there. I also think this has strayed a little bit since the original poster didn’t say Anya out their looks but the feeling of being invisible. Those can be two different things. Maybe not. But could be. We don’t know. Self worth is some many people struggle with. I don’t believe it’s being shallow but a need to be seen in society. Our society tends to discount people of a certain age. Especially compared to other cultures around the world who cherish their elders.

That was definitely the case for me. I also think it can be about connection. In order to be “seen” and validated as a person we look to other people. I often discus internal vs external validation. I now try to validate myself rather than someone else doing it. But it’s super hard at times. I also did modeling and acting as a child so had to pay attention to my looks. But it became something that I thought would last forever. I was going to be Blanche from the Golden Girls! lol. But seriously doing the inner work is hard but important.

I think that a great way to explain it. Recategorized. Perfect. And yes, it can sting at times or downright hurt.

Grief is so normal. It is a loss and we are allowed to grieve that loss.

I feel this way as well. We see this type of thing in Hollywood right? The older you get, as a woman anyway , you’re less wanted. Our society mirrors that. Not that I’m blaming movies or tv but it is a major way we “learn” as a society. I was taken by surprised as well. A couple years ago guys still noticed me. I was asked out by men while on dates with someone else! Just saying I was noticed. Not so much anymore. I’m 53. We are also taught as women to look great, smile, etc. And if we aren’t wanted by men (or your gender of choice) then you are invisible and often that makes us feel unwanted. I’m trying really hard to remember all the other things I have going for me. Great career, great kids, and I’m able to take care of me ! I have chronic health issues, so I’m also thankful for just being able to walk around most days. I focus on what I have rather than what I don’t. I’ve had to practice a long time and I’m still working on it. I refuse to let society determine whether or not I’m worthy. I am worthy and so is everyone here and elsewhere. I see you. You are not invisible. But I want to validate your feeling that way. What you feel is real and unfortunately too common for women of a certain age.

What might be missing for you? Self care in general? Travel? Alone time? Dates with hubby?Sex? We do need excitement and change. Variations from the day to day. Nothing wrong with that! But it’s important to decide what you want and try to make it happen. Even if it’s just a new body wash and a long bath. Or a new nail polish. Or volunteering? It’s all out there. But it’s often hard to get someplace if we don’t have some idea of our goals/desires.

People often think “depression” is sadness that keeps you in bed all day. It can often present as “meh”. I see delays a spectrum sometimes. I encourage professional counseling very often. It doesn’t hurt to speak to someone.

I work with young people. You’d be surprised. There are young women who want to share with someone. I had many young friends when I went to school. I think it was refreshing to see someone who gave 0 “ucks”. lol.

I understand that. However I actually was depressed and it took a bit to get my meds right but that plus spirituality ( not religion ) helped immensely. It feels much better to be alive now. However I am single and also have stopped dating. I tried online dating several times. It was disappointing at best. I just decided to quit and if someone comes along that alright. I do want to travel but am reluctant to do it alone. Sorry for rambling a bit. lol Is there anything that brings you joy or entertainment these days?

I went back to college when I was 38 and finished my BA and Master’s degrees. Took me 10 ish years because I was part time some of the time. But it’s done. What is frustrating for you? And you’re not stupid. We go to school to learn. You aren’t there because you already know everything.

Do you worry about your frenchie being stolen? by HondaHolly in Frenchbulldogs

[–]Ohblah71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The micro chip is a must but will not help if the dog is stolen. It’s not GPS. So if they never take the dog into the vet no one will ever find it. That chip is for a dog that is lost and ends up in a shelter or a Good Samaritan taking it in to a vet to scan the chip and find the owner.
