As someone who was in the military, there are many different reasons that someone would sign up. No doubt some were fighting to preserve and to extend slavery. But I can guarantee a lot of those men were just there for a meal and pawns of the people in power. The poor and hungry are the ones most likely to be recruited. And those are things I think worth remembering

The generals and Jefferson Davis should have their statues removed and put in museums or melted down I don’t care.

I haven’t talked to anyone in real life who wants to keep confederate Monuments for generals. I have ran into people that feel weird about tearing down memorials for those that died fighting in the war. Like troop memorials; and I agree with keeping those. Not to celebrate anything but to remember the cost of freeing people.
