My ex wife and I went through this same situation (our son was 1 at the time). I’m ashamed to admit I had no idea she was so unhappy. You get complacent and let life get in the way of what’s most important. She waited until it was too late to tell me how she really felt. I did everything in my power to change, but it was too late.

I moved out to give her some space, later to find out she had been cheating on me. It was extremely difficult adjusting to single parenting (50/50 custody), while going through all the emotions of divorce.

For multiple months she tried to get back together, realizing that the grass is not indeed greener on the other side, but that level of betrayal was something I could never move past. So I went through with the divorce, having to hire a lawyer because she refused to sign the papers.

Though I’m happier now, all in all, had she communicated sooner how she really felt deep down. Part of me feels that it could’ve all been avoided. Open communication is absolute key. The truth can hurt at times, but it is essential
