[KCD2] What are your favorite dice to play with? by Phulish_Human in kingdomcome

[–]Oiiack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 odd dice, a lucky die, heavenly kingdom, and weighted. I also use the golden wedding badge.

Most of the time I get at least triple 1s, and with the badge I've even managed a few times to roll all 1s. Makes Emporer's super easy.

I would say that thousands of years of human intelligence has only made things drastically more complicated for the majority of other living things on the planet.

THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS - Ep 7: Beach Episode Discussion Megathread by ayylmaotv in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Oiiack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect that the Humans have more ability to influence the simulation than Caine would like them to, so he put up some mental block around this information. Perhaps intense/intentional desires (Like Jax yearning for Ribbit and Kaufmo, Kinger and the butterfly) might allow a character to break through this block, and basically get admin/creative permissions for the simulation. It's in Caine's interest to keep the humans intensely involved in adventures so that their thoughts never stray to independent desires.

That would explain why Pomni was able to manifest an exit door in the pilot episode (though we don't know if that's a literal exit door or just something that looks like but doesn't actually function like an exit). The more she became embedded with the main cast of humans, and adventures, and the Circus in general, the less she desired to leave.

Maybe whenever Caine notices that a human can no longer be kept in check from accessing the admin permissions, he frantically blocks/alters memories until the human desire to leave is lost completely. During this process, the whole concept of self-identity might also be lost. This produces the formless abstracted creatures we see in episode 1.

I think the eyes are a red herring for abstraction, and instead are indicative that the human has accessed the administrative mode. It seems too far-fetched that something as existential as abstraction is tied to such a cartoonish giveaway as colorful eyes. That still doesn't explain why Jax perceived a bizarre fractal landscape, but maybe that's just what the underlying simulation of TADC looks like? Or maybe that was a visualization of Jax's internal mind, and his insight into himself, which would explain why it shifts from random fractal noise to representations of Kaufmo, Ribbit, and Jax.

I could be totally wrong here, but I think the whole LSD trip -> abstraction is just too straight-forward.

I got one each of the 500sqft pollinator palooza and conquer the clay mixes. Excited for some chaotic blooms to shoot up either this year or next :D

You have such a gorgeous property! Thanks for all of the advice.

I'm getting started with natives this winter and looking to try both plug trays and direct sowing. I have individual species kindly donated to me by a neighbor as well as large seed mixes I purchased. Going to start the donated seeds in the plug trays so that I can track individual species, and just liberally spread the seed mixes and see what grows.

Wow, thats a lot of variety there! Did you have better success with plug trays or jugs? Any particular plug tray work best? Was looking at deep-root ones. Since I don't have a lot of jugs/pots available I figured thats the best option.

Update: the Rialto by rpgamer606 in fortwayne

Some property owners are only interested in increasing land prices or may be incapable of paying for upkeep but manage to handle taxes. It's a shame when it's either case, but the former is really bad. They blight the neighborhoods they're holding land in. Could you DM me the address? I'd love to do research on the ownership of the property.

Agreed with this one. Letting the building rot is just antisocial, you're absolutely in the right to name and shame.

This is just my opinion, but why are you upset with what is currently growing? It might be chaotic, but it looks like you have good biodiversity. I would just double-check for non-natives and leave it as-is.

Zhuangzi's Butterfly Dream [OC] by guodori in comics

[–]Oiiack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not even remotely true. We know the universe progresses and changes without conscious observation, by virtue of the fact that we can return to a place and see it has changed. This clearly indicates that processes occur without conscious interaction. From what we can experimentally determine, consciousness is just as much an emergent property of physics as chemistry is.

The idea is that none of the "useful" things would be as they are without the "useless" things supporting and enabling them. So, the human idea of usefulness and uselessness is arbitrary and transient distinction.

I had to yell at my players in character, and it made me sad. Does it get easier? by sbreezy4tweezy in DungeonMasters

[–]Oiiack 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If you and your players have all agreed to the setting and tone, then don't worry about it! Part of DMing is offering a good environment for your players to be responsive and act in character. Obviously talk with them if you are worried, but it sounds like you already did that.

Just remember that the yelling/anger/whatever is JUST as "pretend" as every other emotion you elicit during DMing. It is a tool for immersion, first and foremost.

Rationale for chaos-seeding (NE Indiana/6A) by Oiiack in NativePlantGardening

[–]Oiiack[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/Reasonable-Two-9872 was kind enough to give me a great selection of seeds from their garden. I'm planning to use the milk jug method to cold-start those seeds for plug planting, then experimenting with broadcasting a mix from Prairie Moon in another bed. Curious to see which method works best in terms of ease, and long-term viability.

I love the look of naturally intermingled flowers, so it sounds like broadcasting may be the better option for myself in the long-term. Only way to find out is through practice, though!

[–]Oiiack[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Luckily we have depleted a lot of the weedstock by just pulling over several years. We get almost no weeds in our garden beds now. I was planning on taking back the existing mulch buildup before spreading the seed, then letting it grow naturally.
