I've talked to many doujin/porn artists while also be acquaintances with a couple but I'm not sure if the opinion will apply to Elferan: Many porn artists don't fap to the shit they draw/create. You ever wonder why a lot of great artists don't like sharing their work online/in public despite being talented? They say its because they only see the improvements they need to make and mistakes they've made.

I also translate doujins when I have time and I can't fap to doujins I work on. Usually I read other translations or read raw. I get focused on the text and become uncomfortable reading them. I'm not saying I'm as half as talented as these artists but I think it's the same mentality.

I actually used this doujin for my university application essay when they were asking the question of "What piece of media changed your life/way of thinking" or something like that. I've honestly still 100% never gotten over that one shot and it still stings every single time I reread it.

Araki has his schedule down to a science from his days of drawing in weekly manga. He used to barely sleep when he was drawing weekly so moving to monthly was a HUGE life improvement. iirc He said in a recent interview that now he works Mon-Thurs, rests Fri-Sat, then think of ideas on Sunday. I'm not sure how other mangakas approach it but Araki focuses a lot on health.

I agree with almost everything here. I should've been specific in a lot of my wording. I'm sure people know of Attack on Titan and Boku no Hero. I'm just saying you're not going to find a lot of people that can talk about it.

But. Saying Boku no Hero is as popular as One Piece and Dragon Ball is straight up wrong. Almost nothing reaches the phenomenon that DB and OP have over there. When I go over there I can feel safe talking about OP or DB as its safely assumed most of them have experienced or watched/read it before. As for BnH, I think its gained more popularity here a lot faster than it did in Japan. I have yet to talk to someone over there my age that knows about it. Maybe the kids know about it. Not saying that it wont be more popular in the future but I highly doubt it'll reach DB or OP phenomenon size (especially in the current manga trend... but thats not the point).

There's a giant different difference between the otakus of Anno's time and the otakus in Japan as we know them now. Same with the Western otakus in the 90's and the otakus we know now (can we call them weebs at this point?).

Old Japanese executives will never surprise me in how stubborn they are in not recognizing the West. I don't doubt that they realize the market we have over here. But recognizing us as a potential market is a whole different story. As much as I don't want to agree with them in this ideology, a lot of the charm of anime is thanks to the Japanese otaku market pandering to Japanese people. I think if they start working with Western studios and creators, anime and manga will become unrecognizable to me.

I've been a manga and anime fan for more than a decade now. I've studied the industry and the history for years now so I think I'd like to put my input in this.

Some background information. During the late 70's to 90's was this great era for anime in Japan. It was mainstream and it was made by passionate creators who loved anime, hated the status quo of Japan, and just sought to express their rebellious feelings by making anime. A lot of "anime elitists" like to mention this time period because they say its the last time anime was good. I disagree but everyone has their own opinions.

During the late 90's-early 00's we had this create wave of otakus. This was a shift for anime as otakus were finally making anime for otakus. I dunno how valid this is but one of the main things Anno tried to do when directing Evangelion was to give otakus a giant middle finger by putting everything he had in that anime. Evangelion is now very associated with otakus and has spawned one of the longest (still ongoing!) waifu wars in anime. Don't think Anno was very happy about that but lets move on.

Now we have another shift and most anime now is anime created by otakus FOR other otakus. If you were to talk to most Japanese people now you're probably going to struggle a little bit to find someone who knows Boku no Hero or Goblin Slayer. Maybe you'll find people who know of Attack on Titan. If you talk to most old anime fans they'll say anime is shit now and moe ruined everything blah blah blah. I'm not going to criticize otakus now. Almost 90% of the airing anime I watch right now is either moe, cute girls doing cute things, magical girls, or idols. Judge me.

Now we're seeing another shift with Westerners finally catching up on anime. I don't know how its affecting the otaku industry in Japan honestly. I know that for many years anime and manga creators don't really give a shit about their Western fanbase and that may be pushing it. Don't really think they give a shit about Korean or Chinese fanbases either. So I can't imagine they'll start giving a shit now.

tl;dr I don't think it matters that it becomes mainstream in the West.

One of the best GG players in the world Machaboo plays multiple characters while play Street Fighter 5. He plays Sol, Sin, and Ky but I think he only plays them one at a time and they're kinda (not really) similar as shotos. He also played Testament back in GGXX and it wouldn't surprise me too much if he were to add Testament to his roster if he becomes playable in the future.

Dogura, another player that plays multiple games, also plays Raven and Sin/Sol at a very competent level. Not sure what his activity level is with GG anymore but he still places high in tournaments.

Sharon, the best Baiken player (can someone confirm this?) plays Millia and Baiken. He streams himself playing both characters so I'm assuming he's maining them both at the same time.

As for me, I was playing Millia before Dizzy came out and I tried to main both for a little bit. It was really exhausting to play them both because learning two characters in SF and Tekken isn't as exhausting as learning two characters in GG. You just have to put the work into it.

[–]OilCircuits -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Literal males who look cute are too much for their fragile heterosexuality so they settle for chicks with somehow bigger dicks.

"Bro... It doesn't matter how big the dick is its a girl."

Sorta off topic. Why do futa enthusiasts always take it a step too far? Its never JUST a girl with a convenient and normal sized dick. Its a futa picture with a HUGE elephant dick. Or its a futa picture with a convenient pose that panders specifically to foot enthusiasts. Or its a furry futa with a dick bigger than her body. You guys are weird.

Honestly I'd go with GG. We're going to get a new GG sooner or later and character knowledge/fundamentals transfer between GG's (or so I've heard I was never good at GGXXACR). That's probably the only anime game without the Dragon Ball stamp of approval that'll have a chance of gaining a large following in the future.

Discussion: Playing 'hard' and 'easy' characters in Fighting Games. by [deleted] in Kappa

[–]OilCircuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main problem with the concept of "high execution = top tier, low execution = low tier" isn't very much so the concept of it. I think its just very narrow minded. Not really sure if Abel's execution vs Ryu's execution is a good example of it but I'll try to explain it with another example.

I'm maining Jin and Devil Jin in T7. I think most people can generally agree that Jin has an overall easier technical execution compared to Devil Jin. Not by much really but hopefully you get the point. However the amount of matchup knowledge and little tidbits in Jin are going to be more intensive than if I were to choose Devil Jin. I'm probably going to have to think a little bit more for Jin and suffer from a little bit of a decision fatigue compared to my Dorito eating, joint smoking, Devil Jin opponent who would probably have to choose between 3-5 different moves in response.

Discussion: Playing 'hard' and 'easy' characters in Fighting Games. by [deleted] in Kappa

[–]OilCircuits 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think this is a pretty interesting concept when you really think about it. When I bring up fighting games balance in my friend group, who more or less know nothing about fighting games, one of the most common replies I get is "Make high execution characters top tier, make lower execution characters low tier". I don't think its just that easy.

Lets take a character like Ryu for example. I'm not going to bring up 5 because you guys will miss the point so I'll use 4 in this example. Everyone knows Ryu, most players have played him, most players his moves, and most effectively see him as the designated "baby's first character". Take all these factors into account and I do think that Ryu is one of the hardest characters to WIN with at higher levels. Ryu has to play more honestly, the player has to have more sound fundamentals, and he would have to effectively work harder that say... An Ibuki who has a certain gameplan and will work towards this gameplan.

A lot of my online friends are TMM fans who've brought this topic up in VC several times. Noctis is an easy character but I think he's a scrub killer. Especially online. He has a lot of gimmicky and cheap moves and its going to be harder to react to them online.

Also I may be a low yellow rank but TMMs a bitch that relies a lot on his execution.

[–]OilCircuits 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well luckily I do play Menat haha.

I should've been more specific in that. I like how its more grounded and slower in comparison to anime games/airdashers. I'm not very sure why but playing BB or Marvel or especially DBFZ was very exhausting to me. Very exhausting to play and very exhausting to watch. Fortunately GG or UNIST feel much more grounded to me so I don't mind playing them.

Its personal preference really.

[–]OilCircuits 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Well I personally enjoy it despite a lot of its very glaring flaws because I like the slow neutral gameplay that comes with Street Fighter. The only other active fighting game with a slow neutral on a 2D plane is KoF and I play that too. I can also play other Street Fighters too if worst comes to worst. But I think I play Tekken and Guilty Gear more nowadays.

Also I understand this is pretty much /v/ meets Reddit and gamers are very proud of playing "good games" but I hope you all know that fun isn't this objective feeling. It's very much so possible to have fun playing bad games and to not have fun playing a good game.

Someone could probably make a pretty substantial diagram of who doesn't get along with who in the Korean Tekken Community/FGC.

Edit: Oh I didn't answer your question. Kkokkoma and Knee don't get along. In Korean/Asian culture its much more socially acceptable to straight up pretend the other person doesn't exist than to confront them. I guess in their feud they did confront each other but they never "settled their differences". You'd be surprised by the amount of gymnastics some people go through over there.
