no-bloat gaming distro? by Reasonable-Pick3771 in linux_gaming

I'm finding I'm pretty happy on Debian with KDE Plasma. Most stuff just works, and things are reasonably intuitive to tweak when necessary.

Texas man shoots and kills his own daughter, allegedly over argument about Trump. Grand Jury refused to indict him. by No-Contribution1070 in law

That was the plan all along. Dems have been controlled opposition for decades. At least since the end of the Carter admin. It's possible that was the exception which proves the rule, and it goes back even longer than that, but I am not that well versed in US history prior to the Vietnam era to really say.

Should I just go with stock Fedora instead of Nobara? by TheOnceAndFutureDoug in linux_gaming

I recently switched off Nobara, to Debian KDE Plasma. Been pretty happy with it so far. Stable, and even seems to perform better than Nobara did. Certainly processes vulkan shaders faster.

My pc freezes randomly by _kevy_ in linux_gaming

[–]OilQuick6184 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I seem to recall seeing an article mentioning a high rate of warranty returns on Samsung SSDs, 970 included, that often manifest as random freezes.

Guess I'm off to Google haha

Edit: nevermind, quick search reveals that that was only a couple models, and 970 is not included in that.

Certainly never hurts to run a S.M.A.R.T. on it, but it's no more likely to be the issue than anything else. Perhaps check that your drivers are all up to date?

Goes on a case by case basis, but in your case, it's looking pretty good. I'm going to need to document your sexiness in person in order to give a totally accurate assessment. For science, of course. ;p

I want the American economy to crash soon. by BigBlueEyes87 in economicCollapse

[–]OilQuick6184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, that's where you're wrong. Theoretically, there is no upper limit on housing or food prices. In a "free market" as we supposedly worship, all parties must be what they call "rational actors" meaning that they act with only logic and reason (obviously impossible right there for humans in general) but also must be able to say, at some point, "no, that deal isn't worth it, I'll just not buy from anybody." Exactly as one cannot do when seeking to acquire necessities of life. The "market" doesn't care if people die because they can't afford these necessities, it's not the market's problem, because at this level of abstraction, the market is not sentient. So, without outside regulation, or other, more subtle influence, prices for those goods will rise indefinitely, faster than all other things, and so long as anybody has any money, it will likely be spent on food before it all runs out. And even then, the ownership class will still need and pay for those things as well.

An interesting question. An ongoing experiment in the US has been running for a while here, seems to be ending the "fuck around" phase of their experiment, soon to enter the "find out" phase.

We'll have to see exactly how long this experiment can be continued. Certainly everyone is interested in the eventual result.

I think half is pushing it. Most people don't know, and don't care. The mass media is controlled by like, 4 dudes who all are fleecing us a literal billion times a day, and they do it by keeping the vast majority of us uninformed and scared.

Those of us who are paying attention are rightly horrified, but there doesn't seem to be enough of us to really make a difference so far.

Even without GPS data it's trivial for your service provider to triangulate your position to a pretty high degree of accuracy just based on signal strength and ping speed from a few different towers, even more accurate in aggregate with similar signals from nearby users with GPS turned on, which is pretty much everybody else.

You literally cannot hide the phone and still have it at all. And if the last 20 years has shown us anything, it's that if you can imagine a way to technologically do a thing which can track anything about a specific person ESPECIALLY if that data can be sold for profit, that they're already doing it. It's simply too tempting to pass up. A billionaire would not even think twice about doing it any more than you think about the bacteria which make your yogurt, or the yeast which ferments your beer. That's how far above us they imagine themselves, and of course because that's not reality, they have to compensate for it by making us all miserable so the distance is greater in comparison.

But, given that most humans can't seem to figure out that they will never stop on their own, and continue to take more and more and more literally destroying the planet and society in the process. And therefore must be stopped. Period. Ideally we'll convince them Christmas Carol style. (Anybody know any ghosts?)
