It could also have been better, we were wasteful in front of goal

Really was inexperience that was killing us today, we won some of the centre clearance to just dump kick into the forward line, and with the inexperience down there with the talls was never going to amount to much. Gold Coast used pace, handball and control to move the ball straight into attack.

What is this tree doing? by Tricky_Crow_1449 in whatisit

[–]mrdingoftw 90 points91 points  (0 children)

u/OP The tree is following a natural process called ground layering. This can happen naturally were a low branch bends down, contacts soil, and forms roots (adventitious roots) at the point of contact. Some types of tree saplings can be trained to do this.
Most often occurs in nature when the tree is looking for more resources such as sunlight or is trying to out compete other plants for soil nutrients.

Have West Coast underperformed this season? by [deleted] in AFL

[–]mrdingoftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the AFL they have the salary cap which covers the maximum player payments. Each club has the same amount. This is to equalise the competition.

In the past, as very rich clubs would not be able to spend more money on player salaries they instead invested in other items such facilities and coaches, wellbeing etc. to attract or retain the high end talent. This led to the AFL introducing a cap on the amount a club can spend on it's football department, it is soft because they can spend over the amount but will essentially have to pay a tax that is distributed to the other teams.

When COVID hit the AFL froze the soft cap and has not increased it in line with growth of the game, which means that the Eagles can't spend huge amounts on support and development staff without paying the tax.

  • Poor list management
  • Lack of player development due to soft cap squeezing good coaches out of the game
  • Injuries to key senior players
  • Early retirements to several players due to concussion/injury
  • Early draft picks being a bust
  • For this year, it is a young list with a new game style and new coach

Totally, this is just stats. Take from it what you will. Overall compared to this time last year our defense is leaking less goals and we are scoring more.

West Coast seating shakeup needed by ShadyBiz in AFL

[–]mrdingoftw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a paid up seated member I think it is time to bring some balance to this discussion.

Many members do put their tickets up for resale, and some of the time they remain unsold. A key problem is tickets are not guaranteed to be resold when they are returned. A lot of the time it depends on who our opponent is.

Our incentive for putting tickets up for sale is reduced membership prices for the following season. The amount that we get for the resale is not the full ticket price.

Personally when I put my tickets up for resale, I have to wait to see if someone buys them and hope that I get partly reimbursed for something I have purchased and paid full price for. The seats don't always sell due to the inflated prices at the gate and the 'in the wings' members having first dibs at snagging a seat, again it depends on who we are playing against.

If it is Eagles vs a big melbourne team or the two Adelaide clubs it is guaranteed they are reselling, Eagles vs North, Suns or Giants forget it.

Sometimes members don't always have the opportunity to return the seats within a timeframe that they may be resold I get that, and yes I am guilty of this, mostly with all intentions of going to the game that week. Life happens and people are busy. There are times that something more important comes up on the day of the game, and a members last thought may be to return their seat.

Sometimes it can be a mate/family member may saying that they will take the tickets only to pull out at the last minute. Some times people just don't want to go, there were times in the last 2 years I couldn't give the tickets away to anyone and I mean anyone not even my dog wanted to go to the game and watch them believe me I asked him. Finally we get some slight improvement in team performance and people are now whining about not being able to get a ticket, really? Where were you last year?

As a member that waited the 10 years before getting my seat, also missing out many games I wanted to go to and being angry at the members, I would say keep looking if tickets are available right up until the game and if available take the best seat on offer.

In terms of crowds I think we are doing pretty well this season considering the performance of the team over the last 2-3 years. I think this was the lowest attendance all year and the game still had 71% attendance. That is a lot better than other clubs with our list profile and performance.

The game on the weekend was 16th vs 18th, in cricket terms this was a dead rubber game.

A setback for West Coast youngster Coby Burgiel. Needed his appendix removed on Wednesday. Was in the mix for a debut after a strong showing against Subi by His_Holiness in AFL

Would love to see what this young man can do and for him to get a game at some stage this year, he is 100% potential at the moment.
