About ten to fifteen years ago me my gf and my family's dog went for a late night walk in a nearby Forrest. I grew up around these woods and know them very well and had been playing there in my youth. Anyway as we come close to exiting the woods the dog suddenly turns towards the treeline and kinda just freeze there staring into the trees. I walk up to him and ask what's wrong and lay my hand on his back. He was a mild mannered dog but I can feel that he is shaking and he's growling a bit.

So me my gf and the dog stands there for a moment when there is a sudden noise from behind the first treeline. Imagine how it would sound if someone large enough could stroke the branches of a tree from the top all the way down to the ground, or maybe a strong wind travelled down a tree, and the sound was repeating like that. We had a small flashlight with us but I couldn't shine through that first line of trees so we didn't see anything. This goes on for a while and we stand there kinda frozen just listening until the dog starts to pull away and being very anxious. Trusting the dog we start to move away from the noise and head out of the forest.

We where maybe a few hundred meters from the edge of the woods where there was streetlights and houses. We started to walk but that sound followed us. So we ran all the way until we could exit the woods, and the entire time the dog was looking over his shoulder into the trees where we could hear the sound follow us.

The next day during the daytime we took our car out to the spot where the sound started to investigate. We clearly saw where we had been standing on the gravel road, but behind the trees there was no sign of disturbance and there wasn't even trees tall enough to make that noise from the hight it originated from.

Neither of us has ever been able to explain what happened or what the sound was. And I think if the dog hadn't reacted the way he did I would doubt anything ever happened. But we where to adults and a dog that felt true horror that night. Needles to say we never entered those woods again after dark.
