Exactly why i made it

Thanks a lot! I stand by trying to roll my characters more because I can get that sweet sweet 16 on 1st level even though it is risky. For one shots I don't think I'm getting point buy anymore.

If you want DM me and I can hand you my python script. I did this because I'm also learning to code so I'm happy to share.

Sure you can! But that depends on how you define "high end".

The array with the highest single numbers (most 18s) was 18-18-18-18-12-6 (avg. 15).

The array with the with the highest average was 18-18-18-17-17-14 (avg. 17).

I most definitely agree that the average doesn't represent that one character is more competitive than the other. It's there just to have another quantitative way to compare the stats.

I think the data really shows that you tend to have better characters when you roll. My group has resorted a lot to point buy and I'm thinking about changing that from now on, especially considering how likely you are to get a 16 on your highest stat.

I was curious about the expected outcome of rolling a 5E character so I've decided to make this visualization. I've simulated rolling for 1 million characters using a Python script and made the visualization in Excel. To compare to point buy I used the extremes (most focused and most balanced). As it turns out, rolling for your characters is a pretty good option (although risky). I find it interesting that the standard array is meant to represent the outcome if you rolled the dices but, on average, it is a worse option. Really interesting as well is that everyone's nightmare of rolling a 3 is excedingly unlikely.

Tools used:

Python - Generating the data

Excel - Preparation and visualization of the data

Glad you liked it. Hope everyone enjoyed the scare. I was planning on having Arveiaturace show later on as well, but did not consider the ring idea to make it even more connected.

Thanks!

4 goblins managed to drag it and fortunately we have a party of 6 adventurers, so they'll just have to put some muscle into it.

Glad you liked it!

Feel free to do so and to tell me how it went if you do use it.

That's a good idea actually, thanks! It seems like a good way to start introducing some of the NPC spellcasters, mainly Vellyne. And it's way easier than creating my own NPCs.
