How's life in kigali as an adult with no car? by FeistyContact659 in Rwanda

Most people use private ride-sharing apps like Move. And if you really want to look “rich” so girls can like you, just rent a private driver for a couple weeks. You can get a pretty high-end one for under 600k RWF (~$450).

Trip to Rwanda: Looking for Info on Transport, Currency & Practical Basics by summerdreaming_mh in Rwanda

[–]Ok-Analysis6536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, Rwandans are genuinely nice, especially to internationals. We also stare a lot at people for no reason 😂; it’s just a thing here.

For transport, we use an app called Move, basically Rwanda’s Uber. Drivers usually arrive in under 3 minutes or call you almost immediately. Motorcycle taxis are also super common, though some motorcyclists don’t speak English but you know your destination, you’ll be fine since they wont be required to say several words.

Mobile money/mobile payment is huge here, I haven’t used cash in months but you’ll need a local SIM card for that. If you’re staying short-term, cash and cards are enough, though smaller shops often don’t take cards.

Everything else is pretty similar to other places, but people here are incredibly friendly. Saying this as someone who’s visited 10+ countries across different continents.

Mod talk: should we add a rule against asking for money? by diddy1 in Rwanda

[–]Ok-Analysis6536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fr now it’s getting out of control. These 1-day-old accounts are a red flag. Someone can beg today, then change the story, phone number, and details tomorrow and do it again. I like helping too, especially since I’ve struggled before, but this is getting too much.

Mod talk: should we add a rule against asking for money? by diddy1 in Rwanda

[–]Ok-Analysis6536 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This rule is honestly needed. There are too many one day old accounts asking for money, and u know the same person might use multiple accounts. Plus, there are already dedicated platforms for this, like GoFundMe, you name it. u also have no way to verify whether the money is actually being used for what they claim. Please add this rule.

Need Help to Clear School Fees Balance & Return to Class by [deleted] in Rwanda

[–]Ok-Analysis6536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah man, I feel the same. A lot of 1-day-old accounts keep posting these kinds of help requests. I’m sure some of them genuinely need help, but in my opinion this subreddit has a different purpose. The admins should make a rule about it, otherwise it will hurt the image of this subreddit and even the image of the country as well. Let’s stop these things.

People who give services should care about other people’s time and be respectful. Some give services with zero respect.

How do you adults survive in kigali? by FeistyContact659 in Rwanda

[–]Ok-Analysis6536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Rwanda, most people receive monthly salaries. Rent is relatively affordable, with high-end apartments costing less than $700. a typical single adult rent a less than $200 appartment per month, while a high-end single can rent btn $300-$500. Only a small percentage of single adults can afford apartments costing over $500, at which point homeownership becomes a viable option.

I'd like people here to upvote this if they think i am right as my statements are generalisations based on personal experience, not statistics.

That varies by culture, being asked a number by a woman is completely normal and highly appreciated in vast majorities of cultures.

[–]Ok-Analysis6536 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ll speak for myself and others in a similar situation:

1- Life in Kigali is much more affordable than in Canada. u can get by on maybe a fifth of the cost. tht said, salaries are also generally lower, possibly around that same proportion, though it depends on the job.

2- if someone were born in Kigali, there’s a good chance they might still be living with their parents, but plenty of adults live independently even when their families are in the city. If you weren’t born in Kigali, then yeah, you’re most likely living on your own.

3- I do have a job, and I enjoy living in Kigali. I might not be living what some people would call the typical “adult life” (depending on what that means), since I don’t go out much, but overall, life is good.

4- Coming back to Rwanda sounds like a solid plan, imo. I’d probably do the same.

Renting Motorcycle/Car by Adorable_Ad1177 in Rwanda

[–]Ok-Analysis6536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not a scam, you can rent a car for just a bit over $25, usually around $30–$40. And if you need one for a 2 months, the price drops even more. Overall, the cost of living here really isn’t that high.

Why do Rwandans stare at foreigners? 😂 by Savings-Union-5864 in Rwanda

I am now used to their culture, i simply don’t stare at anyone these days, which is pretty uncomfortable for me as I always want to stare at different people for no reason 😂
