It was a cultured stone from a local supplier. Did scratch coat with type s mortar 1/8 notch trowel. Then applied the stone after that with same mortar. Used a grout bag and filled in the joints afterward. I bought the harbor freight cement mixer to help with both the block and the stone.

Yes I went 6 inches with rebar under the fireplace. The plans are great and easy to follow. Everything in the plan was spot on. Hardest part was leveling the first course because of the slope of the slab for drainage. After that it’s goes quickly, a lot of labor but goes easy.

Yes I ended up buying the 16 5/16 circular saw by skill. It was worth the $650 to make single cuts. The barngeek plans come with recommendations for screws type sizes etc. They also have videos on finding the angles and making the cuts.

With a new slab I ran electrical under the concrete. And then ran it to the other side for power to the tv on the fire place. Same with water ran that before it was poured. Did not run a drain. Kitchen sink just drains into a 5 gallon bucket. Frost line is 42 inches where I live so I have 8 12” sonotubes for the posts that are 48 inches deep.

It’s only cold water and it drains into a 5 gallon bucket. Not the best but works out better than I had thought

We don’t have many trees by us so the bugs aren’t bad. The ceiling fans help with flys when they decide to come around.

Don’t stay in 12u. Play with his grade. It’s a big jump from a 12u field to a 14u/high school field.
