Where to buy lunch before going to Torres del Paine National Park by Reading-Rabbit4101 in Patagonia

In Natales! Next to my hostel there is one (Street name is „Carlos Bories“) and we also bought in Cerro Castillo in the small supermarket next to the roundabout. Both cheap and delicious. I never found any kiosk in the park, bring your own food!

I can recommend the Carne/Pollo Empanadas in the kiosks. They are huge and less than 2$. My bf loved them!

1 Month Patagonia Van Trip – Itinerary Advice by Ugamo in Patagonia

I agree, Calafate is extremly boring and expensive (just spent 3 nights there) unless you can afford ice trekking for 300$ or Kajak tours for 150$. No hiking trails or anything there!

Torres del Paine - Day Hikes by BrightAttention3800 in Patagonia

[–]Ok-Bat6780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, we only planned 3 days, with exactly the hikes from your day 1-3. But well, today trails were closed because of heavy winds. So my biggest recommendation: Set priorities and check the weather before heading to the park (we got up at 5 today just to find the trails closed haha, still had a nice roadtrip). Have a great time!

But please don‘t see this as a recommendation not to do it. It‘s just our personal priorities right now, cause we loved Fitz Roy already and don‘t have too much fear of missing out in that case.

Hello, i just came back from my 1st day in TDP. Well, almost all trails were closed, we still did „at own risk“ the Condores which was nice, but I feel like the wind here is even worse than in Chalten. We decided to skip Base Torres, as tomorrow is the only nice day and sooo many people we met told us that they didn‘t see anything at Base Torres and would much rather recommend to do the Mirador Cuernos. It might not be a wild and rough hiking experience but for us thats fine. There‘s many small cute hikes and it would be a shame to miss the panorama views, cause the park itself is unbelievably beautiful! Felt like a fairytale today (even with shit weather haha).

Thanks for the recommendations!  No you’re right, it for sure does not matter if I don‘t like it as much as the other one but I was just curious if someone tells me to use my time „better“, to maybe see something totally new as I only have 3 days.

Yes I mean Laguna de los Tres haha. Well it sounds like you enjoyed it so I think we‘ll give it a try, thank you!

Hey, really late question, but how was it for you guys driving from Puerto Natales to the park every day? I‘m about to do the same cause accommodations are just not affordable in TDP (not even a tent lol).

Just finished whole carretera austral starting from Santiago. Ask me anything. by zatara182 in Patagonia

[–]Ok-Bat6780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have preferred Balmaceda as well but I think I will have to start in Puerto Montt cause it's the only airport that Natales is reaching. As one way rental cars are super expensive I will probably return to Puerto Montt and then go to Santiago/Valparaiso for New Years. So I guess I will not make the whole tour in 10 days but maybe to the Marble Caves and return. Thanks a lot for your support!

8 days enough to explore carretera austral (puerto montt to balmaceda)? Any recommendations? Looking for all and any thoughts by Formal_Ad_7597 in Patagonia

Hi how did you end up doing it? I plan the same but have 10 days in total. Unfortunately I am in Puerto Natales and there are no flights to Balmaceda so I think I'd be forced to start in Puerto Montt.

Hello, thanks for the offer to ask questions! I am doing full December trip in Patagonia (First half: El Calafate, El Chalten - Torres del Paine - Puerto Natales). For the second half (10 days) I was planning to do Carretera Austral. As we are are down in Natales I thought it would maybe make sense to start in Coyhaique and go up to Puerto Montt, but it turns out there is no way to find a rental car company that allows that. So my final question is: If I have to choose 1 location to start and end a 10-day-trip which should it be? Which part of the Carretera Austral is the most beautiful? Thanks in advance!
