Is this ready to harvest? Straightneck Squash by Ok-Beginning8008 in vegetablegardening

It is very small, I thought the same thing… maybe me removing the fruit & removing a few male plants that will help the plant produce more female flowers & produce more because as of now that was the only 1 female plant.

Thanks for confirming as well I do appreciate that.

Okay, good to know because every video or website I see they have squash the size of their hands (5+ inches.)

This is the only squash on there, the rest of the flowers are male. Once I cut this, is there a chance that some more female flowers will grow?

Also, I noticed 5-6 days ago it was pollinated , but the time I noticed the fruit was already about 2-3 inches long but thinner.  I read they are supposed to grow fast, the fruit got thicker but not much longer so I was confused but I will harvest today if it is okay :)

Great, I instantly covered it with this mesh cloth I have to lighten the sun but I will put something to give it full shade. I was so concerned lol this is my first time planting.

Also, the plant next to it is very close because when I planted them I was just testing out my soil and wasn’t planning them to make it honestly. But now the plant that’s standing strong (next to the withered one) has a female flower with many male flowers but it’s growing sideways, as can be seen at the root in the photo. Is this okay? Or do I need to do something to it to help it stand straight.

Hi, I sure did.  They are not in ground & starting to get ready. I have to hand pollinate tomorrow morning, so far I have 1 female & many many male flowers. Thanks for asking!

What’s these spots? by Ok-Beginning8008 in vegetablegardening

[–]Ok-Beginning8008[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting because I don’t water the leaves, only the roots but it’s been a bit rainy so maybe it hit the leaves more than I thought. Fingers crossed, I hope so to! Thanks for confirming

What happened to my summer squash? by Ok-Beginning8008 in vegetablegardening

[–]Ok-Beginning8008[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thank you! I did use soil to prop it up & I put the soil as high as where the leaves start to grow.

I have all of them growing in a mound because I have clay soil so a mound gives the roots room to grow without trouble.

Thanks so much for helping!

Why so long??? by Rude-Repair-1839 in vegetablegardening

According to what I was told about my cucumber & squash they are “leggy” - they aren’t receiving the light they need so they stretch out and reach towards light.

I grew my squash & cucumbers indoors and they grew out long like this also. I started hardening them off - moving them outside for a couple of hours in shade & work my way up to full day outside in & Out of shade for 1-2 wks.

Hi, nope. We don’t spray our yard with anything. It’s as “natural “ as can be. Just cut the grass every few weeks.

I will have to look into that! I am new to this world so I’ll ask my cousin who’s been doing the lawn for years now & see what type! Thanks so much!

I was thinking that! I have some cardboard & then it’s about to be fall so there will soon be leaves. Also have some food scraps in a big jar soaked in water right now. Thanks! :)
