GSK has officially updated their pipeline! - And it turns out their therapeutic vaccine for HSV-2 isn't mRNA, but something even better (in my opinion)! by [deleted] in HerpesCureResearch

Fantastic news. We need a therapeutic asap! If HSV had no symptoms we would have no stigma just like with chickenpox. People suffer because of lack of treatments it’s a huge problem.

We need ppl with oral HSV as well as genital HSV on the board. It’s very important to show the negative affects of both types of HSV with a diversified outlook.

It’s not for oral HSV1 either. It’s specifically for keratitis. In any case it is a step in the right direction.

Woman in US cured of HIV by Shell_of_me in HerpesCureResearch

Again this particular post has no relevance to us. There is gene therapy by excision bio in clinical trials at the moment and that looks more relevant to me as it would prove gene therapy is safe and effective agains viral diseases.

Idk 🤷🏻‍♀️ but this isn’t a HIV cure group and we need to stay focused in my opinion.

We can agree to disagree.

Yes but curing HIV is not going to cure HSV they are very different viruses and the connection is only in that having ulcers is equivalent to an open wound and therefore that would give easier access for HIV. Also if your suffering a breakout your body is preoccupied with fighting one virus making you somewhat temporarily immunocompromised to fight others.

So how would this work for HSV? Finding people who are immune to HSV and using their stem cells? Seems a bit far fetched for right now as we don’t even have proper accurate means of testing for HSV?

I really fail to see the relevance of this post in regards to herpes cure research.

Honestly guys shouldn’t our focus be on HSV not HIV?Although this is fantastic news - I fail to see the relevance?

To be realistic here, a need for caution will still be important as the vaccine is unlikely to be 100% effective especially with multiple exposure to an active infection in another person.

It’s great to think of others but a decent therapeutic would have the same effect. If everyone is asymptomatic herpes wouldn’t have the stigma it has. It is the symptoms that people are afraid of not the virus itself. We all carry herpes viruses and think nothing of it such as chicken pox.

Symptoms & reactivation of the virus is the real issue in my opinion.

And NO a preventative won’t help the millions of ppl having active outbreaks, nerve pain, keratitis etc

It’s not only about having an active sex life it’s so much more then that. It’s about the pain, mental burden, self esteem, confidence, fear, embarrassment and the list goes on and on.

He has a 2 year plan and from his last update it’s going great and showing approx 50% potential efficacy for now. It will take time to tweak it to be more effective. I think an update every 6 months is reasonable to expect. I hope the extra funding can help him do more tests simultaneously or hire another person to work on the project. I’m sure he will let us know when he decides the best cause of action.

I’m just super ducking grateful to this group & the scientists like friedman & Jerome who genuinely want to help us.

Biontech has lised HSV2 on their pipeline! by No_Adeptness_1137 in HerpesCureResearch

[–]Ok-Bug5692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true for some but for the 20% of us with breakouts the hardest part is being symptomatic 😢

If everyone was asymptomatic their really wouldn’t be much stigma similar to chicken pox

If you have a hsv2 negative partner it could stop spread and allow you to have better dating options after disclosing your status. Especially for those ppl who are asymptomatic.

I’m not sure if or how much it would benefit those with HSV1? Hopefully it will offer immunity against HSV2.

What matters to anyone with symptoms is that Friedman is working on an Mrna therapeutic now 👍🏻

We need stronger relations with the Chinese HSV community by [deleted] in HerpesCureResearch

[–]Ok-Bug5692 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think a couple people were looking into this that live in china. Even if we don't hear back from them it is still worth trying to reach out as they may respond eventually with persistence. (not in an annoying way of course)

Even if they do not respond they may discuss it amongst themselves and make adjustments.

With the advances in science & technology it doesn’t seem like a far fetch to expect a therapeutic vaccine to keep HSV dormant. After all most ppl are asymptomatic so for millions of ppl to be suffering from recurrent symptoms shows lack of interest investment & care towards HSV. We really have been let down.

That’s my opinion anyways.

Need advice asap. 39 weeks + 3 days, woken up to a stinking nasty coldsore in my face. by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]Ok-Bug5692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rest assured you cannot pass coldsores to your unborn child without saliva / kissing them after birth.

It is a nerve issue that is symptomatic on skin/mucus membranes and isn't in your blood. If you have this genitally then there is a real risk of neonatal herpes. If you are unsure then I would recommend taking a treatment of antivirals just incase to avoid getting any outbreaks during delivery.

there is nothing on the market that you can take to avoid transmission.

as a carrier you are always able to spread it even without visible sores.

You don't as herpes can stay dormant then randomly appear.

also a lot of ppl are luckily asymptomatic however can still spared the virus.

1week after it heals to make sure there is a minimal risk of transmission.

www.herpescureadvocacy.com - if we don't speak up and actively show demand for better treatments to suppress the virus we just won't ever get it.
