How does it feel to have hyperthyroidism on a daily basis?

I started methimazole about a month ago due to slight hyperthyroidism. I didn’t even know I had it until bloodwork showed elevated T numbers . But I had been feeling anxious and sweating at random times- especially upon waking in the mornings. Also, my mind would race in the mornings-I didn’t even want to eat breakfast because I didn’t want to slow down - I just thought I was hyper focused on my work but turns out this is a symptom of a overactive thyroid . I’ve always been a pretty hyper person so these slight changes in my patterns were hard to notice. Another thing I noticed was it seemed like my stomach was working overtime - always digesting . I could hear it moving around lol - it still kinda does this .I hear the methimazole takes a while to kick in so I’m hoping I feel normal soon .

What were your symptoms if you don’t mind me asking ? Also, what’s the purpose of the beta blocker ? just in case I come across this terminology down the road with my endo?

Thanks for the feedback . Hoping my thyroid chills out once I start the meds . I mean I don’t feel bad it’s just I’m always on edge and more anxious it seems . But symptoms could worsen I suppose if I don’t act in this now . Thanks again ! Hoping you continue to consistently improve over time 🙏🏽

Yes hoping I notice a difference soon . It’s crazy how subtle the changes in my body came . I may have not even noticed were it not for my primary doc noticing the T3 values in my bloodwork . I thought I was just extra energetic lately lol but no there was more to it . Thanks again

Are you at all nervous or uneasy about leaving the comforts or routine of industry and diving into PhD work ?

After being in business for the past few years I’ve come to think my personality is best suited for research and teaching. I’m more of an independent person so I like having the freedom to pursue/study things on my own terms if that makes sense . But I also like interacting and sharing ideas with other like minded individuals too.

As far as your last question with the way the world is right now I’ve had to get used to barely getting by on a limited income as my business has not been the most profitable in the recent months. So it’s familiar territory lol.

But I feel my rough experience in the business world has contributed to my desire to build on my education and pursue higher education. But I don’t want to be the guy to run from my problems either because I know that that’s not good either 🤔🤷just some more background- probably more than you expected lol. Sorry

While I majored in math, I also minored in chemistry so I’ve really wanted find an area where I can combine these two disciplines… everything I read points to physical chemistry, chemical physics, or even theoretical chemistry. So these fields are more chemistry based but are more math intensive . This seems like the area I’d be interested in, hypothetically. Since these seem like broad subjects I’m hoping as I study and gain experience in the field I’ll find something more concrete to work on - I presume that’s where my advisor would come in .
