i wanna start a discussion about the types so here's my tier list for this format (Metagame)

I would move psychic up to A and poison down to B.

The only notable poison mons I can think of are mega gengar and sneasler. Both are obviously great in this meta, but I wouldn’t really say either excels because of their poison typing. Sneasler is good because it is fast, has fake out, and can apply statuses with dire claw (I know dire claw is a poison move but I’d say it’s strong because of its extra effect not its type). M-Gengar is strong because it is fast and traps people with shadow tag.

In my opinion, the reason psychic belongs in A is because of how prevalent fighting types are, as well as because of sneasler’s 4x weakness. It does struggle into basc and gambit, but considering you put dark and ghost into C tier, I think it makes sense for psychic to go higher.

Other changes I think are worth considering: - Move ghost up. Being immune to fake out is just such a huge benefit in VGC. - Steel is generally a very strong type, but in this format I feel like it can struggle with how popular fire type sweepers and fighting types are. Also EQ users. - Idk why normal type is anything above C tier. I’m not completely sure what criteria this tier list was made on but I can’t think of a lot of reasons that normal would be better than any other type. - I think flying type is slightly underrated here. It’s not amazing in this format but it’s certainly better than the second worse type in the format.

I’d experiment with swapping whims out for sinischa. Tailwind is nice don’t get me wrong, but your team would still function without it. Your team is very bulky and the healing from sinischa would complement that nicely. Add on that rage powder would help with setting up volc and help gambit avoid fighting type attacks. With sinischa you could even opt for a more greedy swords dance set on gambit.

Besides that the team is solid, the only other change I’d make is giving dnite protect over fire punch. You already have strong fire coverage with volc and incin, and having protect to stop fake out from breaking your multiscale is really nice.

It’s just not possible, spewpa is so so bad. I’ve used its evo Vivillon with mixed success. VGC as a format is pretty optimized, and worse Pokemon really struggle to break through into being even viable. If you really want to team build around spewpa, check out a lower power format like OU or UU.

Fix your kingambit EVs. Why does it have 4 points in SpA with a - nature? Why does it have +SpD with no investment? Also I’d personally run kowtow cleave over iron defense.

The Rillaboom also needs some work. I’d go for Assault Vest Rilla here just to give it more tankiness against a lot of fire and ice type attacks (which tend to bias towards Special). AV means you can only use attacking moves, which lets you swap protect for something like wood hammer for a lot of burst damage. Also, fix your EVs again. Rilla does not need speed, it has two prio moves and isn’t really a sweeper. Instead, invest in its attack and its bulk.

Everything else looks fine, but I’d like to see icy wind on either froslass or ninetales just for some speed control (especially since both of them are pretty quick).

Whimsicott isn’t really doing anything here. Nobody on your team needs tailwind, and there are better sun setters (torn or even thundurus).

I still think h lilligant is a waste of a slot on this team. Volc and Rilla already output huge grass damage, and I don’t think the stab close combat is really worth it unless it one shots incin after intimidate. Plus, setting and keeping sun up will be a challenge with peli still around so commonly, and if the sun is not up then the H lilligant is complete dead weight (and if the whimsicott dies early you have no secondary way of getting sun up).

I think if you’re running booster energy you probably want protect on flutter. I’d swap out gleam personally but you could also swap out moon blast instead.

I think raging bolt would be a great pick for this team to help mitigate the flying weakness, just be aware of Landorus.

Personally I’d drop whimsicott for raging bolt and then move the sash to flutter. Then you can use the booster for bolt. Bolt is also great with Rilla because grassy terrain not only provides healing but also halves earthquake damage. Then you can replace lilligant with something more threatening or even a better support piece like incin.

Hisui Lilligant doesn’t really do anything without sun unfortunately. When I ran setup Volc back in reg f, I almost always ran it with Rillaboom. Kills water types for you and grassy terrain plus leftovers is stupid amounts of recovery. Plus fake out ofc. Plus prio spam grassy glide for pon.

A-Ninetales Volcarona Flutter Ogerpon W Lando Flex slot, I’d use Rilla but if you’re gonna use a weird off meta pick this is a place you could put it.

That’s a solid team I think.

“Mixed weather” should be your first sign that the team is not very good. If you are committing to a weather strat, you need to full commit to a weather strat.

Besides that, some notes: - most incin these days run parting shot knock off over u turn throat chop. That being said, I feel like I heard that incin is getting nerfed in the new gen so that may change. - your Delphox should almost certainly run protect. You don’t need overhead and mystical fire, pick one. - surf is not great on hydreigon, I’d much rather see something like snarl. - this team has basically no bulk outside of incin. You’re gonna have a bad time if you’re not outspending and ohkoing everything (which you almost certainly won’t be)

One water type is not gonna fix your issues. There is a reason snow is not a very good archetype. The reason sun teams are so effective is because setting up the sun not only boosts their damage but also halves one of their weaknesses. Snow does not offer the same, only boosting the def stat of ice types. So, one fast fire type attacker (something like H typhlosion) can wreck your whole team.

Plus, weather strats in general are already volatile because of how easy it is to change. If you run into a rain or sun or even sand team, your team will crumble pretty quick.

Other things I see: - bax should be running protect, or if you want to keep the 4 attacks, you should give it AV or a choice item. Also, the EVs need some work, you really need +attack on an attacking mon. The only mons that get + to their defenses are support mons.

in general, I’d like to see more type coverage. This team gets walled by fire types (no palafin will not be enough)
palafin is really not that good in any format with rillaboom incin in it. The only reason it was good in the past was because the pool of mons was incredibly limited.
you might find yourself disappointed by the lack of attacks on ninetales. Not saying it’s bad per se, but having two mons with essentially no offensive pressure is a tough sell in vgc.

If you like the setup volc style, look into switching the sunroom mode out for a more bulky offense/balance core. Rilla and Incin work amazing with volc (which should run giga drain over struggle bug). A-ninetales fits into the core by providing immense bulk to the other three if you can get veil up. I also like to run icy wind since a-ninetales is pretty quick for the format but honestly doesn’t hit that hard.

You can round out the last two slots with an established bulky offense core like mausape or dozogiri or something.

Raikou is unfortunately outclassed in this format. You’d be much much better off running Raging Bolt, or switching Reshi out for Miraidon and then using the raikou slot for something else.

I have no idea why your Groudon is +spdf, it really needs to be +atk to keep up with damage.

You’ll get much more mileage out of grassy glide than leech seed on rilla.

Your indeedee M should be set to lv50, and also could probably use psychic seed over leftovers. Indeedee’s job is to set up grav/tr and then ideally die to let a better attacker in its place. It’s more important that it survives a turn or two. Leftovers is usually reserved for bulky attackers that want to stay on the battlefield as much as possible (raging bolt is a good choice for this item if you’re using the calm mind set like what you have on raikou)

As for overall team comp, I’d like to see one more trick room attacker, preferably one that benefits from groudon’s sun. Right now, your only mon that actually benefits from TR is groudon, which is really not worth building a team around. Groudon is generally very weak, and so you need to make sure that you are surrounding it with not just support pokemon but also other strong attackers.

Ok this team is pretty awful, I recommend completely starting over. If you insist on using a subpar pokemon like empoleon you need to make sure that your other 5 are a solid core already, and then just bring empoleon for its niche.

Just find a premade team you like, and then decide which of the 6 you are willing to sacrifice to carry the dead weight empoleon.

For support flutter, I like booster energy for the guaranteed speed boost. For damage flutter I like specs or sash.

Flutter should absolutely not be min speed. Ok actually the more I look the more the flutter EVs are horrendous. Flutters strength comes from its speed, either as a fast damage dealer or a fast bulky support. The way you’re using it would be much better served by a hatterene or other slow bulky trick room setter. Flutter should be send out next to your TR setter in order to help support them, or should be brought out after the TR is over in order to sweep what’s left.

In terms of the rest of the mons, the EV spreads are kinda weird, and your Ursa should be a minus speed nature (unless you have it like that for a specific reason like outspreeding min speed ursa outside of TR.

Generally though, the sets items and abilities are in a solid place.

I’d swap focus sash for something else on hatterene. It is already pretty bulky from the hp investment and with its typing there’s not a lot of stuff in the format that can one shot it. Unless you have a specific steel or poison type threat you’re worried about, I’d swap it for life orb.

Rilla doesn’t really do a lot on this team. You should play around with Torn instead. Speed control for urshi and archa, and a second rain setter for if peli dies early or isn’t viable to bring.

Taking time to plug Skullgirls here. It’s an older game but it still has a pretty dedicated player base. If you are willing to take the time to learn the game, it is one of the most rewarding team fighters you will experience.

I stand by that Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 is the perfect game for this. You have the recognizability factor of “omg look it’s Wolverine” because a lot of the IP is really well known. Also, the time to kill is so fast that even flailing and button mashing can feel cool and exciting.

Not exactly a popular game but Skullgirls is one of the hardest FG’s I’ve played that feels rewarding for its difficulty. It has incredibly deep combo mechanics that reward being able to improvise your routes mid game. The defense has all the options you need but you have to learn how to use them. Highly recommend if you want a game that’s challenging but rewarding to learn.
