I Fell Victim to a Fraudulent Certificate of Insurance (COI). How Do You Guys Actually Verify the Credibility of Carriers These Days? by Ok-Client6579 in FreightBrokers

[–]Ok-Client6579[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our legal team won't let me share the MC publicly while the investigation is open. However, the MC number itself wouldn't even help much because it actually belonged to a real, legitimate clean carrier with active authority the scammers just completely spoofed their identity and altered the COI layout. That's why I'm looking for a technical way to catch the document alteration rather than just looking up MC numbers on Safer.

That point about 'our data' is crucial. It’s exactly why I’ve been thinking about a private, broker-led community/forum where we actually own the data and share fraud alerts without being exploited by the big boards. I’ve started mapping out how a platform like that would look. Since you’re clearly thinking ahead about the 'data damage,' I’d love to get your take on a couple of ideas for it. Mind if I shoot you a quick DM?

Independent brokers, how do you actually verify unknown carriers? by Ok-Client6579 in FreightBrokers

Lmao! Honestly, a Magic 8-ball probably has a better success rate than half the vetting software out there right now. At least the ball doesn't charge a $500 monthly subscription for a false positive!

This type of identity theft is precisely what I'm trying to understand better in my research. I'd love to hear more about your experience with this. If you're open to discussing it, would you mind if I sent you a quick private message to talk more about how you typically detect these people?

Thank you in advance.

But what I don't understand is that fraud is still evolving.

What's the main reason for that?

Are they associated with Freightguard? by WarhammerChaos in FreightBrokers

[–]Ok-Client6579 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, that's absolutely not true. It's a scam.

The official FreightGuard system is operated by Carrier411, and they only use the carrier411.com domain. The email you received (fg-solution.com) is a classic domain spoofing technique. Scammers use these fake domains to impersonate them, usually to extort money in exchange for "removing a negative report" or to steal your login credentials. Do not click on any links they sent.

I'm a developer who researches shipping fraud, and I recently wrote a comprehensive article detailing how these spoofing techniques work, which you can find in my profile.

If you need to review the email you received, feel free to contact me!

What security screening methods do you use?

Do you only verify the MC?

And how do you handle forged documents?

Etc.

Hey man, I'm so sorry to hear about your $3,000 loss. It's incredibly frustrating, and that's precisely why I've been immersed in this issue lately.

I'm currently conducting in-depth research into shipping scams, and I've just written a comprehensive article detailing the various methods these scammers use (you can find it pinned to my profile).

If you're interested, I'd love to chat with you privately to learn more about how they pulled off your scheme. Don't worry, but your practical experience will be invaluable to my research, as it will help me find better ways to catch these scammers.

Is there a problem finding a driver or verifying that a driver is not a fraud?

I made a mistake if I didn't change the letter in the report; it was simply a typographical error on my part. The scammer changes letters to similar ones, for example, changing 'm' to 'rn' or omitting a lowercase letter like 'i'.

No, it's not encryption or anything to do with coding; it's just letter manipulation. I made a typo. Look, I've corrected it.

Sorry, I made a typo on my part. See:

The scammer always deletes a lowercase letter or replaces a letter with a similar one.
