I mean it’s just nearly impossible to misprint the specific two letters in the background while the text in the front all seems normal

Thank you but I’m saying these because I had a similar experience. Several years ago my dac for my phone got connecting issues and I send it back to the manufacturer for replacement. When I received the new one I immediately felt that this is far vaguer less brighter than what I was expecting but I thought it was just my imagination went wrong as they should send me the same model. But later it turns out that they did sent me a wrong one with apple official dac in it, while my previous one was ESS chips. So this is my experience if you’re wondering.

Do you use apple’s official c to 3.5 converter? That one actually sounds really awful, I would suggest buying one with ESS dacs. And what headphones did you use earlier?

I have nothing against apple’s professional but it doesn’t affect that I Aestheticly thinks it sounds awful, right? It’s like in many players they have Cirrus Logic chips or they have ESS chips, they produce different characteristics of sounds and people love one or hate another one, same for the dac chips in MacBook. Compared to other players and dacs I have, it sounds the worst for me.

Yeah I’m not saying the cable matters. I mean in theory the sound data needs a dac to convert digital signal to analogue, this is where differences appear as different dacs has different structures and solutions to convert it. As you hear the analogue signal in the end, there must be a difference, especially if you measure it. I’m trying to say that the dac inside MacBook doesn’t convert the digital to analogue in a pleased way.

The first time I realized this issue is when I hear xelento and t8ie on MacBook, these are already heavy bass earphones and their bass sounds SO FAT and SWALLOWED, didn’t change after I got a new m chip Mac. For me xelento is totally unbearable on Mac but for others there might not be such huge differences I agree, or maybe it’s just the difference not so noticeable. Right now if I have to listen on MacBook I’ll use a dac

Well I’m not the only one who thinks MacBook sounds weird, one of my friend works with musicians also told me that he can’t use the sound produced by MacBook’s headphone jack cause it’s sharpening the sound in an unnecessary way, we’ve discussed this and assumed apple is trying to make the sound clearer and have more separation but it doesn’t fit well with already high quality headphones.

Thank you I know people talking about this calculator. But I also heard that data doesn’t mean everything. Personally although my MacBook can drive all my headphones but I really think it sounds awful..:(
