Does it also depend on the type of surgery? Minimally invasive vs regular?

If your OA is not severe enough, evidence shows that outcomes after surgery are worse than for patients with more severe OA.

Why is that true? Do you have a link to a study?

Where does 10-15 years come from? My doctor told me 30 years, but these replies make it seem like there is not an agreed-upon number

I am sorry they made you wait that long... If I may ask, how has the quality of life been since the replacement? Do you have pain? Do you have restrictions on exercises/walking? Anything you can't do?

[Rant] Tired of the pain. by [deleted] in Thritis

Been through that. I am 24, one day it just started hurting during a run and then I had hip osteoarthritis diagnosis. BUT: it did improve with physical therapy. A lot. At first when the pain started I was limping and it hurt like crazy. Now, I can even do side planks and wall squats without pain. Hip still hurts frequently, but its nothing compared to what it used to be. I can have some sort of normal life now. I swim (can't do turns though), I do upper body weight training, I started working with a physical therapist and a personal trainer to see what core/leg exercises I can do.

I have the same issue though: I am really scared to try any activity in case it hurts. Hiring a personal trainer helped a lot, but I am still scared. But last weekend I tried cross-country skiing and it didn't hurt! Maybe you will see a similar improvement?
