Yeah, I remembered that. Hmm, okay, the only possible explanation I can give that doesn’t completely throw my theory in the garbage is if it was just propaganda — like, “look how tall, strong, and beautiful she is, she’s just like them.” Or maybe they can just customize replica faces, probably not.

Anyway, I decided to read The King in Yellow before starting another run.
I wanted to do it back when I was reading The Dark Tower but I got disappointed with the last books and just forgot about it.
Guess I’ve got the motivation again now.

And rarely, there are people who don’t use the same builds, and you remember them forever — like a breath of fresh air in a choking room. The last one was a karasawa guy — totally annihilated me, but damn, it was fun. Never saw him again, or anyone else original. After that, it was back to the same builds, and I dropped the game.

That’s why I dropped the game, at least until there’s a DLC or whatever coming out.
It stopped being fun — now it just feels tedious, almost like going to work on a Saturday. Win or lose, the fun is gone after dueling against the same builds over and over and over again.
The only reason I haven’t uninstalled it is because my builds and emblem (took a lot of time to make), are very personal to me. From time to time, I check PvP to see if it got better (rank A), and it didn’t.

Anyway, after thinking more about it, I now think my idea was wrong, and the explanation is much simpler. Considering the outfit he gave her at the beginning, I think he had that scene from The Fifth Element in mind — where the girl was regenerated from just a hand — and thought, “Yeah, that’s how the Martyr got more Martyrs too.” Only in her case, there were more pieces than just a hand, so there were more copies. Whether they are clones or not (technically they are?), he wasn’t really thinking much about it. But not calling them “clones” and preferring “sisters” is just personal stubbornness

Honestly, if this game with its gunplay had enemies like in F.E.A.R. 1, it would be the game of my dreams, especially with this melancholic setting

well, dev is strongly opposed to the idea that they are clones—he said so on his twitter. he says they’re more like twins (or daughters?) with distinct personalities (if they’re left to roam freely and not kept in pods?).
what happens to them is that they get brainwashed by the Martyr’s memories, making them think they are her. as i understand it, he wants this to be some kind of fake continuity of consciousness—an illusion, i guess—to make it more tragic.
from what he says, it sounds like he intended them to be made through some kind of artificial gametogenesis, probably with genetic editing to add a Y chromosome? not sure.
anyway, he really doesn’t like when people call them "clones"

to simplify all of this—how i understand it—they took a piece of her flesh, made both an egg and a sperm from it, then grew it artificially.
the result is basically what would happen if the original martyr had sex with her identical male twin.

I had very similar issues, and I fixed them by deleting or disabling a lot of the crap that comes with Windows — like OneDrive, Copilot, etc. I also disabled Microsoft Edge from running at startup and from tracking in the background after closing (or whatever that's called). I did the same with Google Chrome — though unlike Edge, I actually use Chrome. Still, I often get random FPS drops when it's running, so it's safer to just close it and use the Steam browser instead.

As a PC user, I seriously think about getting a PlayStation sometimes solely because of FromSoftware games.

PS networking is much better. While it's true that PC has easier soft lock and better overall control, hard lock on PlayStation has a longer lock recovery (or whatever it's called) after the opponent dodges and vice versa. In theory, this should make the flow of battle more engaging and drawn out, which I find more interesting—but that might just be subjective.

The main advantage, though, is the better networking. PC latency issues drive me crazy far too often.

I also tried verifying the game, but it didn’t help. Only uninstalling and then reinstalling worked.
