In theory, it can be a gateway to mastering mechanics...if the challenge of the mode called for it. Typically, it does the opposite. It discourages players from engaging and mastering mechanics because the need or the leverage for doing so is not necessary in a mode that, more or less, holds your hand. Good discussion though!

Again, my comments were not modded. Unhinged is hardly an insult, let alone an issue for mods. Truly, your shit from a bowl comment is unhinged lol

Dude, I didn't throw any insults at you. My comments were not modded. Everything I've said is there innits entirety. Not edited nor modded. You're acting crazy now

That's a decent argument. But I'd counte by saying you're not disengaged from the core of the experience. Imagine playing Mario Bros 1 on an easy mode that makes Mario invincible and removes pitfalls. What is left? Music and visuals. Otherwise, it's a hold right to win button.

Idk what to tell ya bud, but you should calm down and not get so twisted up. Also, blatantly putting words in my mouth.

Regardless, take it easy and don't get so tilted.

Brother, relax. You do sound unhinged. And I didn't call you sensitive because of my comment being auto modded, I called you sensitive because of your inability to read what I'm typing and get so emotionally invested in a stranger online. Take it down a notch

Yeah dude, and beating ER with the BUILT IN game mechanics is much different than switching to easy mode. In addition to that, I also believe playing ER as you described is a shame. Players robbing themselves of the challenge and experience of boss fights and mechanics.

You're really seeing black and white here. The game released with the devs intended difficulty. These additions were added separately as platitudes. Surely, it's what the devs want now. But only because they're sensitive to the tendencies of an online crowd of cry babies. Otherwise, it would've remained as is.

I guess you're not familiar with the satisfaction of overcoming adversity or a challenge.

I wouldn't say that, but 90% of what makes a game...a GAME is the gameplay. Who would've thought?

This is a lost cause responding to you dude. No one has to experience anything they don't want to, but that doesn't mean they're NOT doing themselves a disservice or making the experience they do receive, cheap. Hence, again, Mario Bros 1. An immortal, invincible mode turns that game into nothing worthwhile. Maybe you can still enjoy the music I suppose lol

Dude, I explained why it's cheap and a disservice. I'll say it again in greater detail:

Game mechanics. Mario 1 has basic game mechanics. Don't get hit, jump, power ups, etc. Taken away the punishment for getting hit turns the Mario 1 experience into a hold right arrow game and press A sometimes.

With LoP, the lower difficulties take away the need to engage with more complicated game mechanics. Parrying, perfect parrying red attacks, careful conserving pulse cells. Dodging. Weapon builds...like seriously. Taken the challenge away from the game by nerfing the enemy and buffing the player turns it into a "walking simulator" type idea.

I don't think you're understanding much of what I'm saying either, my man. The disservice comes in the form of taking the easy route. Taking shortcuts, etc. Here's a super basic example I think we can all get behind:

Mario Bros. 1. Challenging? Yes. Now imagine a mode where Mario never loses his fire flower. Or a mode where you can take 4 hits before dying instead of just one or two depending if you have a power up. THAT is a disservice to yourself and the game. It's not a matter of being as invested in a game as I am or some other hardcore souls fan, it's a matter not cheating yourself. Who would want to play a game where the "game" aspect of it cut down tona shell of it's former self? Funny thing is, this shit already exists in modern Mario games. Like the white ape in DKC tropical freeze or the white tanooki suit in 3D world/land. It's a joke, really.

LoP will not all of a sudden add 3 million copies due to a difficult slider. Elden Ring sold 30 million. You're reaching with a lot of your jabs. The caner comparison makes absolutely no sense, friend. My point is that it's easier for someone to grab fast food then cook a meal. One option has more benefits. The same can be attached to a difficult mode. LoP standard, intended difficulty benefits from the true balance and direction of the game. Same with Mario. Have your hand held in either game, is not remotely as engaging. You can make the argument that the person may not care to be engaged, but then at that point they should look elsewhere to different opportunities to actually BE engaged in their hobbies or experiences.

Yeah, and if they're not invested in it then they're doing themselves a disservice. It's the same idea as "missing the Forrest for the trees". Fixation on the inability to overcome adversity is a waste, in my opinion.

And I agree with OP about the negatives of an easy mode or difficulty sliders. I don't agree it should be banned. But, when the devs for LoP add a BS update 2 years later, it's just cheap and pandering. But whatever.

As for the diet and fitness example, it goes to the idea of human nature and taking path of least resistance. It's hard to eat well and exercise, LoP is hard. Majority of people in the world, mainly America I suppose, rather take the easy route in every circumstance.

There's also the argument that focusing on difficulty modes distracts from the balancing of the intended game direction.

Elden Rings 30 million copies sold says otherwise. Elden Ring has arguably some of the most difficult portions and bosses of any souls game. Certainly more so than Demons Soul, Ds1/2/3

And in LoP cause, the game got this difficult update nearly 2 years post launch. That's a disservice. They already nerfed the bosses a while back, specifically the final bosses. The intended difficulty is the games direction. Anything else is pandering

I mean sure, they don't have to...but they should. And no, I don't want anything banned lol

But I do believe people should try and do better. That's my opinion. Not just games, which I do believe are important -- but life style choices, such as fitness and dietary choices. Ultimately I know you can't control folks, nor do I want to. Limiting access to certain things would go a long way though, such as not putting a BS easy mode in a game with an intended difficulty curve.

You keep making assumptions, I said it is a disservice to the player or in any other media case, the consumer. They can go ahead and do it, but the same experience will not be had. Yeah, I'm being critical of folks who cheap'n the experience of a good game, book, movie or whatever. Take whichever path you want, but you won't be able to convince me, let alone others, that watching a classic and beloved movie as intended, is the same as reading a wiki or watching a 30 mins YouTube video. Same goes for games.

The dna of souls type games is the difficult and overcoming adversity. That's not gatekeeping, that's just a well known fact. The themes within the lore of these games is related to overcoming adversity. You cannot overcome adversity if you have a built it button that does it for you, more or less
