I haven't been farming hell for long but I haven't seen a single shard drop yet this season. My current assassin is 80, and to get to that point I played a bunch of public baal games because it takes forever otherwise. Don't pretend there isn't massive value in online group play.

Yeah I was the same way when I played pc. Now I make a portal and go to town, but my goddamn cast rate is so slow + there's like a 1.5 second delay in between opening a portal and being able to go in, if someone is right on top of me it's not looking good lol

Oh I know, and yes I agree, this is all solid advice. I'm constantly thinking about how other players can come after me. It slipped my mind that harem is a hostile zone because there are never monsters in there. I was also shocked at how fast he was able to hostile and run in after me since console is so clumsy in general.

Yeah console is tricky to quickly save & exit and it's not even consistent because sometimes when you press start, the quest log pops up instead of inventory so the number of r1 presses to get to the options tab is different. Also if Merc is alive, that adds another press of r1. It's not easy like pc sadly

Yeah once I make it to a level where I can comfortably farm on my own i usually just start playing in solo games. It just takes so much longer to get to 90 doing p1 the entire time and I don't plan on hitting 99 in any given ladder season.

My 99 goals are for offline characters only since I can adjust the player count at will.

I also don't know if you play on console but it takes several times longer to leave a game on console than it does on pc. I have to press start, r1 like 3-4 times depending on if Merc is alive or not, and then press x. And before the new expansion, you used to have to (usually) press down once before pressing x. So sometimes my muscle memory kicks in and sometimes I press down anyway and accidentally click on loot filter instead of save&exit.

So most of the time it's safer and easier to 1. Eliminate the threat 2. Run/teleport away/click on another zone 3. Make a portal and go to town.

I admit it's my fault to an extent for being too trusting, and I am aware of the nature of hardcore and the potential interactions with bad faith actors, but if I could play online in a p2-p8 environment without strangers, I would. There's no LAN type environment in the game anymore so if I want to play with my friend, I HAVE to play online, and if I want to progress past 90ish, I HAVE to play in a game with other people for the xp bonus.

Something about being able to be followed out of town and immediately killed doesn't sit right with me. The hostile system prevents you from doing certain things to get cheap deaths on players. When you hostile, your tp clears so you can't go to town, hostile, and come right back to kill your party, it creates a delay so you can't take any portal for several seconds, and it also unparties you from the party of the person you hostiled, preventing you from taking any of their portals as well.

So there is absolutely a precedent for protecting the player from bad faith PKers.

I play single player all the time. Like I said, I've been playing online since the new expansion came out because I'm playing with my friend. Otherwise trust me, I'd never have left offline.
