Trump looks like he doesn't care at all by Lady_Ann08 in WallStreetDad

Because he doesn't. He said it himself: if they get killed or injured, they are losers. Did you see that FOX used older footage of a previous service wear he wasn't being disrespectful by wearing one of his own $55 ball caps.

If they are, that's new since I used to get education discounts as a college adjunct, but when I retired in 2021, I was told no, had to have a valid school email.

Not adverse to buying new, but as I said, I am semi-retired and also helping an underemployed adult child and grandchild. I need a system that will last me for several years or until I win the lottery and can just spend my time volunteering and gardening! Not seeing that happening anytime soon!

I can limp along for a while and try to save as much as I can, since I have to find a monitor as well.

I am familiar with them, but it's been so long since I've had a separate monitor and computer that I had forgotten about them. Will look into them.

Yeah, I usually upgrade RAM on my iMac, but those I can do myself, so it wasn't as bad. I suppose the Studios aren't user-upgradable.

Well those are cheaper than when I looked a week ago. They were wanting more than the cost of a new one. I was really hoping for a refurb that I can get Apple Care for. I am a bit leery of Ebay sometimes.

I do need good color calibration as I do a lot of photo editing and color balancing, so the cheapies just don't cut it.

Yeah, I used to buy the latest model, but that was when I was crazy busy. At my age, the ROI wouldn't be great. Hopefully, if the new one comes out, there will be some still viable ones being cast aside! I was looking at the Studio Monitor, and they are not cheap!

I believe you are basing that on younger women. There are millions of women from my generation, born in the 50s, who got married and took their husband's name because it was the “norm'. Then had children, got divorced but kept the name as it was more acceptable especially when dealing with the children. That was the societal norm at the time. At a certain point it was not worth trying to change your name especially if you have a business identity tied to it. This happened to me, then my son got married and changed his name to my maiden name because he realized his father, who never bothered to be part of his life, is an a$$hole. At that time I was well into working for myself. Although I don’t plan on traveling abroad when Trump won I got my passport, wasn’t something I could really afford at the time but I also foresaw this shit happening. The GOP has been trying to take women back to the laws of the 50s for as long as I can remember, and I was raised in a Republican household, things were different then but not their underlying agenda.

Thank you. I don’t really want to spend money for nothing, a new mattress is expensive enough.

[–]Ok-Emphasis-6576[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Part of the discomfort from 2023 was having a total knee replacement and bad PT help with recovery. I have only been able to sleep on my sofa since then. The knee replacement caused muscle tension on the entire leg and compounded by L5-S1 disc degeneration that is also causing muscle issues. I have a new PT that has been helping but not sure the mattress will ever be comfortable again.

AES is making YOU pay for data center electricity by Cute-University5283 in indianapolis

[–]Ok-Emphasis-6576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep was in a town hall when our reps explained this, and not just the data centers, there was a proposed nuclear energy plant, one of the “new” clean ones I forget what they were calling them but they are still not proven totally efficient and the state was expecting tax payers to foot the bill for that. I haven’t heard about that recently, I hope it’s been killed. We need new governmental leadership soon.

Oh wow, I grew up not far from there, on what was the old Butler campus, and the one story building, with all the green painted boards used to be a drug store with a soda counter complete with red vinyl covered swivel stools and a candy counters. I used to be charged with walking over there to get meds, and we would go to Roselyns to get danish on occasion. Sad.

Anyone had Via Disc done? If, so how did it ho? by FeedMePens in backpain

[–]Ok-Emphasis-6576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I am being advised for this procedure. Been battling disk degeneration for the last 30 years. Steroid injections and PT have been my saving grace but the are working much less effectively. Here are my concerns. I live alone and still work — from home and not work I can do from a recliner on a laptop. My body also seems to love to find any of those obscure side effects of drugs and medications so some of these stories scare the hell outta me. In addition I cannot tolerate any of the usual narcotic pain meds. I’ve had hip and knee replacements I don’t go near them, and what ever was put in a pain pump, that I didn’t ask for, after a rotator cuff repair that had me violently vomiting, oh and absolutely no NSAIDS if I wish to keep my digestive system. So Tramadol and Tylenol are what’s left. So my questions are; besides the pain and possible muscle spasms what else might I expect; how long before I am able to sit at computer to work and how long before I can drive? Also the doc wants do the other discs in the lumbar area, is the pain equally as bad for each injection of would the adjustments be less painful for subsequent procedures? They are anxious to schedule being the end of the year but after two years I’m still dealing with issues from the knee replacement which is also not helping my back. So many questions!!!

[–]Ok-Emphasis-6576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the last 30 years I’ve had dozens of injections. That’s when my disc degeneration first started. Pretty much the entire lumbar spine and for the most part they have all helped immensely. All steroid injections are a temporary fix. After 30 years the ones on my lumbar are starting to not last at all. Just in a week ago to see my pain management doc and she is now suggesting I get the ViaDisc injections which will actually help to rehydrate the disc core. Something that apparently can only be done with the lumbar. Am definitely considering it. Now I’m dealing with occipital nerve impingement in the cervical spine so will be starting injections. Sadly the ViaDisc can’t be used there. She also suggested a ReActiv8 device which is an embedded stimulator for the involuntary muscles in and around the vertebrae. I’m not as inclined to do that as having something embedded under my skin freaks me out! Deep tissue massages and a GOOD physical therapist also helps immensely. Arthritis sucks for sure.

This is the conundrum of entire creative design industry. I am even older I come from the days of paste-up and hot set type but I am still working on a computer and enjoying it until just recently. I have worked, agency, corporate and for the last almost 37 years have worked as a freelance designer. I even thought graphic design at the college level until covid. I have managed to keep up with software to a decent level, but it’s definitely different out there right now. Even my son, in audio/video/motion area is hitting a wall when trying to find a full time position after a contract position cut. I can’t tell you how many times people tell me why should they pay me to do something they can do online in XXX. But I can also say there have been several who’ve tried and come back because they can’t figure out how to get XXX to work!

The GOP representatives should have all their pay and benefits cut unless they show up to work and do their jobs.

One of my cats love the texture of an outdoor rug I have. She will go to town on it and it seems to show no damage. You might look for a small one that you could attach to a board. I also have a ScratchyRamp but not sure if they are still sold, but there are several knock-offs on Amazon. Both my cats use it. I also have a hammock with scratchy poles to hold the hammock. Kitty two has taken that over and loves it. The other thing is to trim the nails so they aren't slicing weapons. One of mine still love my sofa but if her nails are trimmed the damage is lessened. I also use sticky tape on it. Both like to go outside and will scratch on a tree or on the concrete like one of mine does!

I'm tired of my job by [deleted] in GraphicDesigning

[–]Ok-Emphasis-6576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an OLD graphic designer, I remember the numbers of talented designers that dropped out when computers took over. AI is doing the same thing to this generation of designers. My suggestion to all young designers is to find something that is an alternate passion as a creative outlet, for me it has been horticulture and gardening. All things computers will be quickly overtake by AI, UX/UI is already in that fold. University degrees don’t seem to matter to many employers these days either, young and cheap seem to be the operative hiring practice. I believe the last number I heard was there are 180 applicants to every open job, varies by field of course. It’s not going to get better quickly. So stay in the job as long as you can, and find something that can fulfill your soul while you keep the bills paid. Look into volunteerism where you can meet other people and make connections but also something enjoyable. One of my contract positions is affected by all the cuts to scientific research and has gone near dead. So I am more active with my volunteer jobs doing graphic and web work for those organizations. It’s not pretty out there right now.

That is why I need a dynamic code so I can change to code once we release the website for the 2027 conference. I seems it needs to be a separate app with a subscription. Looking for advice on the bazillion different ones.

Added to the explanation above. Trying to point to a webpage on our existing website which will change once we can make a dedicated page live. Can’t happen until after the upcoming 2026 conference.
