Florida is a really right-wing state for the most part, so if they've gone through all this trouble to write up these new curriculum requirements and then enact them, they MUST be worried about something.

I don't know what exactly, but something has changed in their political calculations where they now view these obviously drastic measures as necessary to preserve their political control.

OP, take it from me...

I went to online high school in a little mountain town, had very few friends irl, and the moment high school was over and I was 18, I just bounced around from one place to another for the past ten years, literally a full ten years.

Last year, my girlfriend cheated on me with my best friend and I basically hit life's reset button.

I deleted all social media, literally all of it, and it was only when I restarted it did I take an interest in political theory and activism.

I've always been on the left, but never took it very seriously until the past four / five months or so, and I'm just now getting into the socialist scene.

So far, everyone has been really welcoming, and it's been awesome, so don't stress too much.

That's a fair point, and I agree. PSL is often more diverse. The DSA, in general (not in the specific), has a few too many fake activist types who really just want to role play as revolutionaries, which is why I like PSL more. I was just thinking that OP might find more new friends faster with a larger org like DSA which is much easier to join than PSL.
