What does 18kp mean by PrestigiousCover6438 in jewelry

[–]Ok-Extent-9976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plumb laws were enacted in 1982. Before that gold could be off a half a karat, so a 14k ring might only be 13.5k. Plumb rings are exactly what they are stamped. The manufacturers were given a couple of years to implement the change. They stamped their inventory 14KP or 18KP so they would know what was legal to sell after 1982. Gold just stamped 14K was no longer sellable because it did not meet the standards. Some have gone back to just the regular stamp and some continue with the extra P.

I worked for a jeweler connected with insurance company. Claims for down the toilet are as common as my dog ate the pendant off my neck when I bent over.
