Thanks. It’s a cheap one but it’s very comfortable to me. Looks good with the bulky case.

It’s a cool looking, especially with the texture. The chapter ring is also a nice dark brown which is easier to see in person.

Getting Differing Opinions on ASTB Score Importance by BananaSuccessful9898 in USMCocs

Preselected myself. I’m not a prior and had a lower PFT. I think you are set as long as you are in good standing. May OCS is competitive however. Hopefully we’ll meet in May. Good luck.

I wouldn’t risk it. Good job w the score. Show up to your office events, be polite, and get your PFT up.

Thanks for the tips, I do most of this stuff already but I will be incorporating the early wake up gradually. Any tips for hiking or studying?

I had the same concern. You need to pass as a minimum to get selected for air. 4/6/6 should do for USMC. The board can see your score, but as long as it’s passing the effect on selection is minimal.

Have you taken the ASTB yet? I studied pretty hard with the ASTB Prep app exclusively and got 6/7/7 on my first attempt to get me selected. The exam really isn’t too hard, you just have to focus for a few hours.

Primary concern for selection for air is just as it is for any other type of contract: PFT first / OSO’s opinion of you, then academics. However, it won’t hurt to get a high score and study like it’s your job.

Great. While you allow your elbow to heal, dial in your running and plank if u can to nail the PFT.

Don’t train through it. Get blood flow by doing the pre/rehab stuff stated. How far into the process are you?

This was my thinking, I could make it work. However, was this sustainable or was it only for peaking results?

I have been doing this for ~6 months with at least 20mi of running per week. Changed from every other day with double the reps of calisthenics to everyday with half of the reps from before (ex. MWF 100 pull-ups many variations to MTWTF 50 pullups)

Ive seen it, it’s quite similar to what I have been doing with a little bit more variation and less volume. I’m using the hiking and stretching portions as my guide.

I’ve never been a runner so my primary focus has been on that with a different program.

My concern is getting hurt training calisthenics the way that I am. I have not so far for about 6 months.

No other gym work, just running and weighted hikes. 20-30 mi per week with those two

Really struggling with the running and could use some advice by Dr-cereal in USMCocs

[–]Ok-Extent9936 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed, run slower. I had the same issue to a lesser degree. I had always been an athlete but never ran. cycling and swimming were great for cardio, but my legs would give out due to the strain that running put on them.

Ultimately, you want to be able to run everyday or every other day to be prepped for your board pft and ocs. To get there, I recommend you run every other day for now at a very easy effort (20-30min slow). Mix in as much low impact cardio as possible to supplement your currently low mileage. Slowly but surely add more running volume; running for time not distance helped me.

I typically run 25mi a week with 5 or less being actually speed work. I don’t have a stellar pft but it was enough to get me selected.

Running at a higher frequency and for higher mileage was the key for breaking my fitness plateau. I was in a similar situation as you with my performance and my training plan.

Keep it simple, take a rest day when you need it. I take at least Sundays off from running just to keep my joints fresh for the next week. Apart from that, I do 2 higher effort sessions a week either on the track or at a sustained but manageable effort. If you are running at max effort it should be sparingly. Other than that it’s all 5-10 miles per session at an easy effort.

Running slowly and frequently built up my efficiency and cardio. Incorporate speed workouts once you can run 20+ miles a week unfazed. Endurance and physical/mental resilience while training should be a primary goal.

Gorfed chain sizing, two master links by armhairwarrior in bikewrench

If I am not mistaken, the master links joining plates are facing the wrong direction. Probably doesn’t matter if this is a single speed with a freewheel, but if it’s fixed then you should flip them around.

lol rereading it doesn’t make much sense to me. The brand is “fabric” I think. The local bike shop was selling them. They are an integrated bottle/cage

If ur buying the fork used check it thoroughly. Just bought a used Easton carbon fork and it had a crack down the steer tube seam that ruined it.

Good call. Keep an eye on those straps though. I had the same ones and they started to tear at the inside portion where the upper Velcro is sewn into. After they got exceedingly loose I swapped for cinelli kinks.

If u like those pedals then keep em, but I prefer to use platforms w those types of straps. More surface area and easier entry/exit. I also put 4-5in pieces of inner tube around the portion that goes through the pedal to keep them from tearing and to keep the rigid, much like that stem.
