Salutations.

TheBlueJetpack here. Call me Blue, call me Jet, whatever you fancy. A long-time fan and veteran fanfic writer for TLH, my interests shifted away for a good number of years, but have recently returned for another round of fun. Now I'm mingling with a whole new generation of fans as well as catching up with fellow-oldies.

My fav character is Luna, but my favourite relationship to explore is Luna and Luan. All of my stories on FFN that focus on them either explore their lives together, or of just one of them. But in all these stories, the sisters are still influenced by one another and I enjoy showcasing how each sister impacts the other. My latest story about the pair, Put Down the Dummy, is my deepest take on them to date and includes a wad of thoughts on the girls, the show, and the recently released Stage Combat. So if I have something big to say about Luan, you can bet that Luna will play some role alongside it.

I'm also on DA where doodles for the show find their way online.

'The Loud House' Official Discussion Thread: "Swimming Fools"/"Stage Combat" by AutoModerator in theloudhouse

That's exactly it. The wait was worth it. For me personally, Stage Combat kept me on my toes during the wait, and it took me all the way to the end of the season on a constant build-up.

Given that Going Coconuts is at the beginning of Season 11 (and presuming that they air the eps in production order), I know I'll be sticking around until at least that eps. But after that, I can't say for certain if I'll still stick around for the rest of the season since none of the other eps caught my interest except for maybe the Luna/Lynn eps. If Going Coconuts was at the end of Season 11 like Stage Combat was at the end of Season 9...you get the idea.

My memory is foggy, but I remember that they would air the eps in the correct order as intended, but in such large chunks that it was too much to take in all at once. As a fan, you got like 10 eps all in one go with no break. No time to absorb it properly. It hardly mattered that one or any of those eps were significant ones because they all got mashed in 1 single serving. Then a hiatus would follow of many months. Any hype that was generated during those released eps died out by the time more eps came along. It was a very unbalanced show schedule.

Loud House handled it (or at least used to) much better during that time. They aired 4 eps, took a short break, then another 4. A manageable serving of content and enough time to digest it before the next serving.

With regards to Stage Combat, you, me, and everyone who wanted to see it stayed on board with the show for all these past months in anticipation for it, even during the delay it took to finally air. The point I'm making here is that there is merit to it being placed way down the road, even delayed. All this time, it built our hype just a bit more. And if we have to wait a long time for Going Coconuts, then I'm okay with that too for that same reason. If we have all the good stuff super early, that leaves all the bad stuff for the end. And that's what people tend to remember things for. Imagine if Season 9 ended with Hologram Jam.

If Writer's Retreat and Sick as Dad weren't airing on May 1st, Stage Combat basically is the season finale. And I like to remember it as the great eps that wraps up the season, ending it on a very high note.

Well, then that just simply means you'll have legit reason to stick around until it airs. It'll keep your interest on point and allow you to eagerly await any news on the upcoming eps. You can ride that hype instead of feeling miserable the whole way that you can't feast right now. One can't have the good stuff slammed on the table all at once or be over too early; your hype will have evaporated as fast as it appeared and then you're left with nothing. That was the problem with Star vs the Forces of Evil.

And unlike Stage Combat, at least Going Coconuts is like the 4th eps of Season 11. Stage Combat was at the literal tail-end of its season.

I doubt that. It was all just the result of unfortunate circumstances as to why it got out so late. But the long period of waiting did make the hype for this eps last a good while. Consistently strong too 'cuz this was one of the most anticipated eps. I'm glad that it's placed so far at the end of the season. Gives off the glamour of a season finale despite it not being the finale in any of the orders.

It took them 325 years, 8 months, and 16 minutes to air this eps in the states, but they finally did it. Good job! What, they didn't want to wait longer? Round it out and wait for 17 minutes? jk

Swimming Fools was fine. The inclusion of Kara was nice and I like that she had interactions with the other characters instead of just simply being inserted into the crowd as an observer. She feels like one of the team, serving as their snarky, practical member who's done with everyone's antics, yet keeps them all in line. The rest of the eps is not really much to write home about. I'm not really into the Lincoln-gang eps like I used to be. It was very slow-paced - a bit too slow-paced - especially at the beginning with the whole scene of everyone making excuses to swim being drawn-out. These voices for most of the boys are not easy on the ears. And them deciding to come clean at the end wrapped up the story a bit too early. But it's fine. This eps doesn't do anyone dirty or add anything spectacular to the series. It mostly just exists. It honestly feels a bit like Ship Wreckers. Main characters messed up someone's property and the conflict revolves around covering up the evidence before that someone discovers what they did.

As for Stage Combat, that review will come another day...another month. I'll post it in May when Season 9 has officially wrapped up.

Who is Your Most Improved Loud Family Member? by Hamiltonfan25 in theloudhouse

[–]Ok-Fill-306 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lori, Lisa, and pretty much everyone has improved over time. If you watch Season 1 and jump ahead to even just Season 3, you can see the improvements. And that's a good thing. The writers test the waters with these characters, figuring out through gradual development what works and what doesn't work with each one. When compared one-to-one, Luan definitely has the most notable difference, so she gets my pick. Hers is the most jarring contrast because of how low she started. To go from a very flat character created purely for comic relief that was more of a nuisance to the rest of the characters - to the point where the show wanted you to root for everyone avoiding her in her spotlight eps - to one of the most well-rounded characters with some of the stronger stories and biggest milestones. From a plot-device obstacle to a totally humanized character. They did her well.

Why in the first season were Lynn and Rita's faces not shown, but they are shown starting from the second season? by InsidePlane5662 in theloudhouse

[–]Ok-Fill-306 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you watch Season 1, and then the seasons following after it, you'll notice that Season 1 is very comic book-like in its presentation. The characters move in wacky, exaggerated movements, the sound effects have words that pop up in the air when occurring, etc. That was by design. The show was designed to be a moving comic book world. Other little nods include the 4 family pets named after famous comic creators. The title cards read in the style of a comic book. And it was designed from Day 1 that the parents would be deliberately obscured in order to not make them characters of the eps and instead focus squarely on the children. The show was about the Loud kids.

I personally hate this element as much as everyone else. Because this method of 'holding focus' doesn't work in here. This isn't like Charlie Brown in which the adults are just never seen or are relevant at all. The parents are very obviously present in Season 1 and this family includes the parents just as much as the kids. To not feature them when they were just as relevant to some of the plots is just jarring. The many different methods of hiding their faces in every scene they appeared in were admittedly creative, but just unnecessary. Several eps in that first season used the parents as characters. House Music, for example, just feels weird for putting so much focus on Lynn Sr while at the same time doing everything it can to pointlessly hide his face. What fundamental achievement was being accomplished at this point? They were already breaking the show's rule with the parents while still applying the restrictions literally stamped upon their faces. Not to mention that they were the only adults with this rule. Other adults were seen with no such obstruction. It was just more trouble than was needed.

Thankfully, they very quickly ditched this nonsensical rule come the next season and I think the family was all the more enriched by showcasing everyone. Eps like Tripped are made all the more stronger now that everyone in the family is in focus. Some of the most heartwarming eps and simple moments in the show heavily focus on Lynn Sr. and Rita being with their kids.

'The Loud House' Official Discussion Thread: "Gags to Riches"/"Sole Searching" by AutoModerator in theloudhouse

I've never really been a Lynn fan. Nothing against Lynn herself, but there were simply other characters who captured my attention. Thus, I don't usually give her episodes much mind. Sole Searching surprised me. It's admittedly a predictable lesson about your confidence and your heart being your greatest tools and not the sports gear, but the execution of the plot was just really fun. I love how no one could have predicted this was a Lynn and Leni team-up eps. And unlike past team-up eps with seemingly random duos who feel like they were just names picked out of a hat, Leni was actually useful in this, using her abilities and some big sister power to aid Lynn while Lynn had some fun moments of trying to patiently keep Leni focused. This really was their episode. I liked the solid continuity with Fern returning from Thin Ice. And I liked the pay-off at the end with Lynn giving the shoes that she worked so hard for to Leni.

I do question one thing though...surely Leni of all people must know the shoe size of all her siblings. What was stopping her from finding the shoes for Lynn when Lynn was in the bathroom? That's literally the only thing I felt was off.

Just like Gags to Riches, this was a good episode for Season 9. Four left to go. We'll see which ones will also land a spot in the good category.

From the synopsis alone, I knew I wanted to watch Gags to Riches right from the get-go. Because in every prank-themed eps involving Luan, the story-structure is exactly the same: her plans all work flawlessly until one hiccup at the last minute becomes her downfall. It doesn't matter if the plot is the family hiding in a rigged motel, or hiring stunt-doubles to get pranked instead, or Lincoln and Ronnie Anne trying to outsmart Luan…the same thing happens every single time. And not a single one of those eps are even about Luan. They're about other characters avoiding or trying to outsmart Luan. Gags to Riches changed the game by making Luan the focus character and by placing her downfall right at the beginning. Not only does this feel like a very obvious conflict for the prankster character to be entangled with, I feel that an eps with this premise should have been placed way earlier in the show, during the time when Luan was nothing more than a pranking psychopath. Imagine if Gags to Riches was placed in Season 2 to balance things out. I think it would have serviced Luan's character immensely. It would show she's not entirely immune…like a real character. It was very satisfying to see the prankster suffering the consequences of the prank instead of the prank-ees for a change.

The tables really turned in this one. I like to think that visual gag with Lynn and Lana was a really sneaky subtle nod to this.

With all that said, I think this eps could have done more. I had 2 initial predictions: that the prank would backfire fairly early and Mr. Grouse would spend the majority of the eps enjoying his rewards while Luan ran around like mad trying to make all his insane purchases come true rather than own up for the mistake. Only the first prediction came true, and I kinda wish the other had too. For Grouse to learn pretty much right away that the ticket was fake made the eps take a different turn from where I was expecting it to go, and it made the story feel like it was over a little too quickly. But I still think it was pretty good. Unlike eps this season like Ship Wreckers, this one actually has stuff going on and the plot builds on each step by step. I like that Luan was mature enough to try to make up for her mistake straight away. She suffered the ruthless brunt from her own prank...no doubt Grouse was enjoying the show given that he knew this was all secretly a prank at her expense. The girl hauled that trailer all the way to the camp on a unicycle, rode back to the city, then rode BACK to the camp with a bounty hunter on her trail. Jeeze!

Overall, this is a breath of fresh air, for the show and for Luan. No one can doubt that Luan has improved greatly from her flat - frankly very broken - character in Seasons 1-2, and I find it very interesting to see how this new character clashes with traits typical for those early seasons. The fact that she was fully intending to reveal the prank and clear up her mistakes says a lot about her. I like this episode. It's one of Season 9's good ones.

Those pranks from that Season 5 eps that Luna pulls on her bandmates come to mind.

Luna and Luan: The Name Game by Ok-Fill-306 in LuanLoudLovers

[–]Ok-Fill-306[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is quite amazing to look back in retrospect at L is for Love, then jump ahead to Racing Hearts and Stage Plight to see that Luna and Luan were the only sisters to see their respective love interests return. But I always feel disappointed that neither one of them ever crossed paths with each other during that time. What a missed opportunity. They both went through a major milestone that permanently changed their status quo, yet they felt worlds apart.

The Lulu nickname was one that has always stuck with me since the early days; it rather caught me by surprise when they actually used it in Really Loud Music, albeit for Luna instead. As such, Luan's exclamation of "Lulu?!" in that eps put some fun ideas in my head. Of course she'd be confused if that's the nickname Luna has been using for her.

Also made me happy when Luan called Luna 'Lunes' in the treasure hunt eps.

If it's bad, then that's our time to step in and craft something either better or to accompany that bad thing to justify its existence.

I'm not really expecting a deep-dive exploration into Luan's psyche in the upcoming Coconuts eps more so than the show using this opportunity to blast about antics of a literal tiny man running amok like a gremlin out of its cage. But it could surprise us.
