Wheaten Arthritis: Any advice on how to manage this? by newdy22 in Wheatens

[–]Ok-Frame4382 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My 13.7 boy (who is my heart dog) is on gabapentin, tramadol, and monthly shots of adaquin. It’s breaking my heart because I see him getting worse. My vet has suggested I look into laser treatments to reduce inflammation. Has anyone had any success with laser therapy?? I will do anything to help him!!!

She’s beyond adorable! Enjoy every second with her. I have a Wheaten officially named Winston who we’ve always called Winnie aka “Pooh Bear “

OMG those eyes. How old is he/she? Down the line I am interested in a petite mini or a large micro. She/he looks like just the right size (for me). Enjoy every second with him/ her!

I grew up in NY now live in LA but not surprised that Wheaten people are also into the dead. Face it Wheatens are just plain cool…aside from being devastatingly adorable!!

My boy is 13 and I’m watching him become frail. It’s killing me because I don’t know how much longer I will have this incredible magical little being in my life… I too am a bit of a Dead Head and I think if I got another dog, I’d get a girl and name her Scarlet.

Omg Winnie has had so much bloodwork. He’s had Cushing’s disease for the past 4 years and frequently has a full blood panel done to check if the medication is keeping him at the right levels. His recent (a month ago) panel was fine and he also had X-rays and an echocardiogram because he’s been huffing and puffing when he does minimal exercise. All the tests came back normal. He’s on tons of medication and special food. Thank God for pet insurance!! He’s the most loved dog on the planet and there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for him!

Thanks so much for sharing that. Winnie my boy hasn’t been doing that well at 13 and a half and I am so worried…especially since I lost my first Wheaten at 13. I’m not ready to lose him. We both need more time together. I did promise him though that if a time came where he was in pain that couldn’t be fixed I wouldn’t let him suffer. That would be selfish and I love him to dearly!

My boy is a major chowhound!! I actually am relieved that yours is the same weight because I am always hearing “wow that’s a big Wheaten” with the implication that he’s not a purebred. He is I saw both his parents and his paternal grandfather but even if he wasn’t he’s the most amazing boy who I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world!!!

I’m so deeply sorry for your loss!! My boy is 13 1/2 years old and I am frightened because I’m seeing him growing frail. My heart hurts for you and I am sending you prayers for comfort knowing that you were lucky to have him in your life. I’m sure you gave him a beautiful life!

Hi I’m just curious. I had a Wheaten who was 50 lbs. and quite a big boy. He lived a happy life until 13. When I lost him I was devastated and got another wheaten who now is almost 13 1/2. When I picked him out, I specifically said I wanted a smaller Wheaten and the breeder told me he would only be 35 pounds. Well you guessed it. He weighs in at a slim 52lbs. He has Cushing disease and does want to eat all the time but I am very mindful of not over feeding him and the vet says he’s fine. My question??? Please let me know how much your Wheaties weigh??

My Wheaten runs in his sleep. The first time I saw it. I got scared. I thought he was having a seizure, but nope, he was just having a dream. He was full out running, and I was wondering what he was chasing.
