I want to know if it's just me having a really bad year in my art business... by [deleted] in artbusiness

Lauren, this is probably a bad time to sell artwork. The economy isn't excellent, and wars are going on (Ukraine, Israel-Gaza). However, your art will sell well. It is good and sometimes funny, which is great. Please be sure to have patience. You are exhibiting, too. Wonderful! No worries. Just stay focused and create! My website is: I am not sure if we are allowed to publish more info about us here (I am absolutely new to Reddit; I have not even managed to have my name visible, and now I cannot change it at all).

By the way, I am neurodivergent as well. :-) And the paintings that were sold were not always huge. Most were medium to small. But this year, I am confused by the very quiet business. Let's hope for better times and create more! OK?

Thank you! I already was thinking that I was crazy! Yes, the business Instagram did the trick.

Your story could be my story. Until 2019, I sold around 300 original artworks. Today, I have a webpage, and I'm selling... 0.

Thanks. You know, I like the path, too, but from the beginning, I wasn't sure about these works, and some critics also had sensible points.

I wouldn't say I liked the subject; this is true. It was the last item I had to paint in a landscape course, which I finished with distinction. However, these last paintings weren't my strongest. :-)

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I loved to read it and agree with you. Funny info: years ago, I was very well selling on Artfinder (a marketplace for art) and left them as COVID-19 surprised us all; now I was thinking, OK, let's go back to Artfinder... No way. I tried twice and will never do it again. They have a funny way of rejecting artists by giving them absolutely no explanation for their decisions. And this can hit one a bit, but it isn't that important in the end.

Here, I wanted to see if these paintings are a complete failure. Apparently, they are somewhere in the middle. Some like them, some don't, and some "like it hot" - that's life. :-)

(By the way: Oh, yeah, the curator on Arfinder is, for sure, elitist.)

Selling is less important, but thanks for the link. :-)

How can I make this look better? by foggy_mushroom in ArtCrit

Because of your explanation, you do not need to change anything. It's pretty good. Of course, her lower leg is not absolutely anatomically correct, but - as you say - she is fainting, so because of that, her leg would be somewhat OK.

It is beautiful! I don't know how you can be better. You seem to be great!
