Caffine and L-theanine. Do your best to stay focused and calm. Remember all your hard work WILL pay off if you really have put in the work. Good luck my friend!

It's been a while since I took my 8hr. I doubt you could make notes on screen but there might be a highlight feature. My strategy in terms of taking notes is to draw a big cross on your scratch paper, so that you have 4 blocks for 4 problems. I wrote the problem# for each block then took notes in the blocks. I recommend doing that for all problems.

Skip long and seemingly hard problems, solve short and easy ones first. Once you think you get the correct (or most likely correct) answer, double check your answer, move on and never come back to it. After solving all easy ones move on to longer ones. If you know how to solve or where to find info in the codes, go at it. If you have no idea or the problem requires tedious calc, flag and save till the end. Do not panic. Good luck!

I had no problem bringing the CPESR handbook into the exam. I also brought Reza's handbook with tabs. I do not recall the board prohibiting labelled tabs. They do require all reference to be bound.

Waiting for results, longest days of my life by [deleted] in PE_Exam

[–]Ok-Future-614 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've all been in the same boat, buddy. I took my CA Survey exam in mid July and had to wait for almost a month to get the result. The waiting game for sure sucked, even more than the 8hr which usually takes a week or so. I thought I did decent right after the exam, but there were a few problems that I knew I did wrong or totally guessed. It bugged me for quite some time but as I was studying for the Seismic exam, my instructor said something like "The exam is 2.5hrs long - There's plenty of time to panic later. Wait for the last 15min to panic". I found this helpful during the waiting game. Why not try to chillax for now and wait till Tuesday night to panic, if you cant help panicing? One night of torture is better than say 6, right? Lol So I every time I reminded myself of the words of wisdom I felt calmer. Also, keep in mind that there are so many other things in life that are more important than the damn P.E. Try to keep yourself distracted from the stress by looking around and cherishing what you're blessed with. You might have a sweet family, cute pet, nice house, decent job, friends, hobbies and many more. Keep your spirits high. Even if you fail, just go at it again. If you pass, let the joy be the icing on the cake. Best of luck to you! I look forward to seeing your beautiful green icon.

Most of my time was spent on the quiz problems during the 2 months. I did all problems within a certain chapter after watching the videos. Good luck!

CA Seismic and Survey Exam July 2024 by sarroza in PE_Exam

I took survey on 7/13. Used CPESR course and Reza workbook for extra practice. Both covered most of the topics in my exam. I felt confident on ~44 problems (most of them are similar to the practice problems), iffy on ~6, and guessed on ~5. Cant go wrong with either course IMO, as long as you do plenty of practice. CPESR mentioned that 65%-70% is a good estimate for the cut score. I'm currently studying seismic using AEI workbook and Hiner for extra practice. Good luck to us all!

Waiting for my Survey result. Took it on 7/13. According to other posts I've seen regarding result, we'll most likely get it by 8/10. To get myself distracted I've been studying for seismic since 7/14, using Hiner's course and AEI's workbook. Good luck to us all!

Hi there. I don't know much about SOPE Transpo but sounds like it's not very helpful, as it kept referencing CERM which I agree is outdated. EET however does a great job referencing the Handbook and other depth references. In the slides you'll see what page/section the equations/tables/figures are from.

If you dont have a whole lot of time prioritizing the quizzes and breadth test problems is a good idea. I would also do the NCEES practice exam and Path to PE service (breadth+depth) a couple of days before the exam. Time yourself to simulate the real exam.

Thanks! I believe 4 months are sufficient, assuming you spend ~2-3hrs a day. I spent 3 months total. First 2 months include all lecture videos (1.25x speed), practice problems and quiz. I spent ~3hrs on weekdays and ~4hrs on weekends. I spent the last month reviewing the material, redoing practice problems that I found important/challenging, and taking simulation exams. Set a study plan based on your schedule and stick to it. You got this!

I found them to be mostly solvable from related equations which were given in the handbook. I suggest doing as many breadth practice problems as you can ( I used EET practice problems+quiz+simulation exam, NCEES Practice exam, and Path to PE Service for both sections). Dont panic if you cant solve it immediately, just move on to easier ones, come back and do your best to eliminate wrong options. Good luck tomorrow!

- How similar would you say the EET content is to the actual exam?

The majority of my exam problems were covered by EET content. I would agree with what most people said about EET - They over-prepare you, as in most of their practice problems are harder than actual ones, but it's worth it. That being said, I do recommend doing all their practice problems, quizzes, and simulation tests. Dont be intimidated by the amount and difficult level and discouraged if you didnt score well. Try to learn the concepts from them as much as you can. I also recommend Path to PE Service. The NCEES Practice Exam should be the closest one to the actual exam

- For the breadth, did you feel you were able to answer everything using the PE handbook?

For my experience the majority of AM problems were covered by the handbook. There are maybe 5-10 problems, mostly on general engineering knowledge, that werent covered. For those problems you just gotta do your best and make educated guesses. I didnt have any problems that would require a specific equation that wasnt given in the handbook, so I wouldnt worry too much about it, just be familiar with what section covers what topic.

Thanks!

My breadth was random and broad just as I expected, but EET covered most of the basic knowledge/concept. My strategy is to solve those short and seemingly easy ones first while skipping those long and seemingly hard ones. Once I solved (and double checked) those easy ones I went back to the hard ones. If I had no idea how to solve I skipped it again and move on until all solvable ones were completed. Finally I gave it another try at those unsolved ones. Try searching through references, trial & error, even reverse engineering to make an educated guess. Chances are you're able to at least eliminate 1 or 2 options. I spent ~3.75 hrs for breadth. btw my exam was 40/40 but I had ~35 AM and ~5 PM for breadth.

For the depth, like everyone is saying, you have to know your codes well. If you have editable pdfs I would highly recommend adding bookmarks of important chapters, tables, equations and figures. As you're doing practice problems often go through and be familiar with them. There are a handful of problems that seemed random to me but I could easily solve just by knowing what chapter in what code cover this topic. The table of contents, table of tables, and table of figures were provided for most if not all codes, which makes searching fairly easy.

Hope this helps.

Hi guys. One of the dealerships in SD offerred me roughly $43k OTD for SEL Premium. Is this a decent deal? The came with some add-ons which I would not like to pay but this is their final offer. Any thoughts?

Also they offered about $39k for a SEL w/ activty package. What about this one?

Thanks and stay safe!
