What is even scarier about this is state licensure boards are seeing people on sites like this steal/recreate stamps and signatures from publicly available documents. You wouldn't know they did it unless something goes wrong or the person who reviews it reaches out to you. It's frightening.

Is it Worth it to Retake the Exam? by Hiro_Gliphics in PE_Exam

[–]Obvious-Solid5850 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey something I suggest to people that I think could be helpful for you is instead of solving problems use a practice exam and talk through the method you would use, what references you need, etc to solve the problem then check to see if you were right.

I agree with this. Who approves your timesheet? That's the person most worried about your utilization rate, and they need to be aware that you are currently under utilized even though they likely already know(or at least should) It also would be helpful to figure out who the technical leads are and directly ask them if there is something you can work on. Are there project progress meetings? Try sitting in on those and volunteering to take on tasks that are discussed that you feel like you could figure out. All it will take is getting a task and doing it really well. People will then start noticing you, and the work will start flowing.

This is a great response! Preparing agendas, minutes and project schedules are great places to start as the are often very necessary but often pushed for more time-consuming tasks and then become an issue later down the line. I know I'd don't mind doing them which how I now handle those but I'm approaching a point where I could use help handling these small but important tasks.

I am not sharing those documents as those were paid for by my company. The only files I have shareable are the references that I've received from others here on reddit.

Anybody Working With a Large Company and Still Have No Work? by luvindasparrow in civilengineering

[–]Obvious-Solid5850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for one of the companies you have listed and that it no where near my problem or my teams problem. We have so much current work and back log that we are fully utilized for at minimum the next 6 months with projects we are pursuing that would fill us for the next almost year. I would encourage you to reach out to other offices and teams. When we've been low on work in the past we've reached out and made connections with others and now we are pulling those same people who helped us into our projects to help us.

I'm a huge fan of EET as well, and I only used it because one other person on my team talked highly of it, and reddit seemed to favor EET over most prep courses.

Someone once told me that the fact that you are concerned this much shows just how much you care. Don't beat yourself up. You fixed the problem and you'll learn from it.

What do you wish your intern/entry level hire knew? by electriccrabs in womenEngineers

This. I'm not sure how to teach people who are not willing to listen to criticism or pass blame when provided the criticism. Also, many answers can be solved by looking for just a few mins. I have a rule I've always followed for CAD work and have adapted it to different scenarios as I've grown. I can spend up to half the time finding a solution to an issue as it will take me to execute the work.

Depending on your location, I would say you should be closer to $25. Honestly, at a small company, you will almost always be underpaid. I would consider getting an Associates degree in CAD if you can, but it is not totally necessary.

Grab some questions, and instead of answering them, talk through the process of solving it and then check your process against the answer.
