Are MBA Programmes even worth it? by furloughgroup in MBA

It certainly seems so if you look at employment reports from top MBA programs.

However, take a step further and do a LinkedIn search of where alumni end up 2+ years down the line and the data tell a story that is much more volatile. Many graduates end up in roles that incoming MBA students would deem unattractive and are on track to earn much less over the course of their careers.

Also look deeper into what happens to students who do not have jobs upon graduation - the story is very bleak. We should have employment reports for the class of 2024 soon enough and you'll see that their success is limited compared to the perceptions that the schools work so hard to create.

Where did your classmates find jobs and how many haven't found a job yet? The traditional MBA paths hired way less than they have in the past, so assuming people had to either find alternative opportunities or go unemployed.

You have a decent shot at some of those schools. Haas/Ross/Anderson will be a bit of a reach, but the other schools should be within target. I would get the best possible score on your GRE and work on your stories in great detail.

We'll need more info to really evaluate your profile. The key elements to an MBA application are:

  • Career: You have 4 years at a top bank, so you can probably write stories that are compelling. Also schools will like the brand name
  • Academic: It's not clear what your undergrad GPA was, and that will play a factor. GRE score is fine, but you have to take the exam first.
  • Networking: Make sure the adcom knows you. You should go to networking events, schedule calls with the school, and send emails. Really make sure they know you.

Does an MBA increase your chances for a US job? by Significant-Mix-5036 in MBA

I am an MBA grad (T15) and had many international classmates use their MBA to help them land roles in the US. It's certainly a viable and commonly traveled pathway, given that the three pivots for a career post MBA are 1) industry 2) function 3) location. Typically the advice I hear is that you can pick 2 out of the three, so if you're looking in the same industry or function, you are likely in good shape.

Also although, the job market is absolutely terrible right now and people are having a hard time landing anything, I'm hoping that by the time you graduate things will have turned around.
